Job Description

Our client is seeking a Network Architect to take guidance for the delivery of the CIOG Transport and Network deliverables for the Wedgetail Wideband IP Communications System.

Major Areas of Responsibility:

  • Assist the Network Architect in reviewing contractor documentation.
  • Assist the Network Architect in system design activities and managing the approved system baseline.
  • Assists CIOG’s contractors with component build activities.
  • Conducts CIOG system integration.
  • Authors support system artefacts.
  • Conducts CIOG integration AT&E.
Primary Objectives:

  • Develop a detailed understanding of the system design and function.
  • Support the Network Architect, Technical SME leads and the Project Manager.
  • Delivers in accordance with the project’s system engineering plan and processes.
Specific Responsibilities of the Job:

  1. Assist the Network Architect in reviewing contractor documentation.
    1. Conducts independent review to validate for solution completeness of detailed designs, test procedures and build documentation.
  2. Assist the Network Architect in system design activities and managing the approved system baseline.
    1. Conducts investigations, risk mitigation activities and trade studies as required under the guidance of the Network Architect;
    2. Preparation and reviews of ECPs as required;
    3. Maintains the CIOG baselined document set.
  3. Assists CIOG’s contractors with component build activities.
    1. Provide guidance/advice in line with the approved system baseline and designs;
    2. Liaise with prime system integrators, vendors and stakeholders of the system as required to resolve build and test activity dependencies;
  4. Conducts CIOG system integration
    1. Build;
    2. Troubleshooting of complex issues;
  5. Authors support system artefacts.
    1. Provides technical content that requires a detailed understanding of the system design and function;
    2. Authors content for operator manuals; online help content; system administrator SOPS, and work instructions for logistics, break-fix, engineering support;
    3. Provides technical content and advice on the CIOG WICS deliverables to the prime system integrator in the development of system support and training content;
    4. Works with CIOG service towers in the Transition into Service by providing WICS specific technical content.
  6. Conducts CIOG integration AT&E.
    1. Authors test scripts and procedures for the integration AT&E;
    2. Executes testing;
    3. Conducts defect investigations.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Demonstrated competency and understanding of IP networking technologies
    1. OSI model;
    2. Routing;
    3. Switching;
    4. Firewalling.
  2. Understanding of virtualisation and operating systems.
  3. Familiarity with Systems Engineering processes within Defence.
  4. Familiarity with HP ALM-QC.
  5. Familiarity with Change Management methodologies within Defence.
  6. Skilled and effective communicator, spoken and written, prepared to confidently engage in technical forums.
  7. Ability to work in a team environment, participate in project meetings and engage with both business and technical stakeholders.
  8. Effective planner with efficient time management skills, including interaction with remote teams across multiple time zones.
  9. Ability to rapidly learn new concepts and tasks, with a view of improving technical knowledge and skills.
  10. Intuition to balance innovation against supportability for customised application of technologies.
Job Requirements:

AGSVA Clearance NV1 or higher.

Education and Experience:

  1. 3-5 years minimum experience in IT industry in Network technologies including:
    1. Cisco Routing and Switching
    2. Cisco Firewalls
    3. Riverbed Steelheads
    4. SolarWinds NPM/NCM (or other Network monitoring systems).
  2. Desired current industry certifications with: 
    1. Cisco
    2. Riverbed
Physical Demands:

Minor physical activity may be required in the racking and cabling involved with fault finding activities in the development lab or in the configuration of equipment in preparation for technical investigations and trade studies.

Work Environment:

Work will be conducted from Barton offices, the Canberra Integration Lab (DCIL), RAAF Williamtown, Telstra Melbourne offices, and the Boeing Wedgetail Support Facility Brisbane (BWSF).  The position will require travel to each of the sites with durations of up to 2 weeks at a time to the DCIL, BWSF and RAAF Williamtown.
