Job Description

Seeking a Senior Internal Fraud Investigator, you will support the Scheme Integrity Branch in assisting the Agency and partners in delivering a high performing, high integrity, trusted  Scheme.

The Role:

This position makes a critical contribution to safeguarding public confidence in the Agency. You will be a valued member of a highly responsive and contemporary Scheme Integrity Branch, conducting internal and external fraud investigations. The Branch supports the Agency and its partners in preventing, detecting and responding to threats in delivering the Agency This role requires the ability to contribute and lead in different investigation types, depending on Branch pressures. You will undertake investigations of potential fraud, unauthorised access, misconduct and other criminal offences committed against the Agency/Scheme. In doing so, you will use initiative and discretion in the interpretation of policy and the application of practices and procedures. Decision-making is substantially dependent on sound judgement, skills and knowledge. Senior Internal Investigators work with a high level of autonomy and ensure the work of the team is of high standards. They will also at times be required to assist with project work. Senior Internal Investigators are expected to display positivity and team focus, playing a key role in the support and development of less experienced staff. They manage their own work in the context of competing priorities, including contributing to business planning, changes in workplace practices and business improvement strategies. They are required to liaise with stakeholders and represent the branch with credibility and professionalism.


Skills and Experience Required:
Essential Criteria
  • Required qualifications consistent with the Australian Government Investigation Standards are: Certificate IV in Government [Fraud Investigations] or Diploma of Government [Fraud Investigations] or equivalent as set out in the Public Services Training Package (PSP04) or demonstrated experience with the obligation to obtain the required qualification within 12 months of commencement
  • Demonstrated experience in undertaking investigations and compiling briefs of evidence to a criminal standard to meet the Australian Government Investigation Standards, including the taking of complex witness statements and conducting of records of interview
  • Demonstrated team player with the ability to succeed within a complex and rapidly changing environment
  • Well-developed written and oral communication skills

Desirable criteria
  • It is highly desirable that applicants have an understanding or lived experience of disability.
Location and Contract Term:

Melbourne based. 12 Month Contract

Security Requirements:

Must be an Australian Citizen. Ability to obtain NV1 Security Clearance Required
