Job Description

Seeking experienced Cloud Infrastructure Specialists and Windows Administrators to work within the Cloud Hosting Services and Specialist Capability Systems sections of Operational Science & Technology (OS&T).

The Role:

The department has a business requirements for System Administrators across a number of program initiatives including, Specialist Capability Systems, the Integrated Information Environment and the Environment’s Refresh project. These are large pieces of work expected to continue for the next 2 years.
The department is in the midst of a core infrastructure redesign for its enterprise environments with an aim to modernise the architecture and security models in use. This will include uplifting core software including Operating System versions, Active Directory Domain Functional level versions, rationalisation of Active Directory objects and GPOs, and ensuring other infrastructure systems (such as VMWare, Citrix, SCCM, McAfee and Tenable) are configured to provide optimal services to all tiers.

Skills and Experience Required
Mandatory criteria

The successful applicant will have worked with the VMware SDDC stack for a minimum of 3 years and be able to demonstrate:

• Experience with vSphere

• Experience with vRealize Automation

• Experience with VMware vRealize Business

• Experience with vRealize Log Insight

• Experience with vRealize Operations Manager

• Experience with vRealize Orchestrator

• Experience with vRealize Site Recovery Manager

• Experience with VMware vSAN

• Experience with VMware NSX

• Proven experience in implementing complex business solutions that are hosted on infrastructure/cloud services specifically the ability to develop and complete:

           o Technical & security requirements;

           o Test considerations;

           o Operational concerns; and

           o System constraints

• Virtualization and cloud concepts, processes and standards, such as virtual data centres, VMware vSphere vMotion, and dynamic resource scheduling

• Systems management concepts, processes, and standards such as SNMP and syslog

• Systems capacity and performance management and tuning

• Systems backup and recovery, high availability, and disaster recovery

• Central authentication (LDAP/AD) and security

• Red Hat, SuSe, Centos, Ubuntu, and other Linux or BSD based operating systems

• Network protocols including DNS, SMTP, NTP, and SNMP

• Network services including load balancing, routing, DMZs, and firewalls

• Data storage for the enterprise including NAS (IP based), SAN (FC based), Software-defined storage (SDS), and converged storage solutions (vSAN, etc)


Highly Desirable

• Demonstrates an understanding of the customer relationship manager role in the organization and its impact on the IT cloud-based services strategic direction, goals, and key performance indicators (KPIs)

• Understands the role of Cloud Infrastructure Operations within a cloud that provides one or more services to various cloud service teams

• For public and hybrid cloud environments, understands what is required from an external cloud provider to fulfil the requirements of services, including costing and service levels

• Demonstrates knowledge of ITIL service management practise in regard to incident, problem and change management

Skills and Experience Required

Mandatory criteria

Proven experience in the design, provision & support of ICT infrastructure services

• Proven expertise and experience in the following technologies:

        o        Microsoft Windows Server (2003 through to 2019) and various roles/management tools

  • Active Directory (AD)
  • Group Policy Objects (GPO)
  • Active Directory Federated Services (ADFS)
  • Certificate Authorities (CA)
  • Public Key Infrastructure (PKI)
        o Microsoft System Centre Configuration Manager

        o Citrix (Workspace, Virtual Apps and Desktops, Gateway)

        o Scripting – PowerShell etc.

 . Proven experience in implementing complex business solutions that are hosted on infrastructure/cloud services specifically the ability to develop and complete:

        o Technical & security requirements;

        o Test considerations;

        o Operational concerns; and

        o System constraints


Highly Desirable

• Skills in the setup/configuration/maintenance of Compute/Application Virtualisation

        o VMware (ESXi, Horizon)

        o Linux (RHEL 7/8, Satellite, Red Hat IDM)

• Experience in complying with security assessments, systems configuration and change management processes and documentation standard in the Federal Government sector (especially in areas relating to national security)

Location and Contract Term:

Canberra Based – 12 Months with 2 x 12 extension options

Security Requirements:

Must be an Australian Citizen. Ability to obtain a NV1 Security Clearance.
