Job Description

Assistant Director - Government and Secretariat

Closing time and date: Thursday 18 March 2021, 9am Location: Canberra Contract term: 3 months (1 x 3 extension option) You must be an Australian Citizen and must have or be willing and eligible to undergo and maintain an Australian Government baseline security clearance

The Governance & Secretariat (G&S) team provides strategic advisory and secretariat services across a range of internal and external governance committees. This includes implementing governance frameworks and approaches to support the agency to achieve its mission and objectives, as well as support its strategic engagements with key stakeholders.

The Assistant Director will:
• have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, be highly motivated and have demonstrated relevant and recent experience in governance and secretariat support functions
• be experienced in effectively managing and developing staff, and building productive teams
• possess highly developed written and oral communication skills, including the ability to foster effective working relationships with colleagues and internal and external stakeholders
• achieve results and deliver on priorities
• be highly organised with a demonstrated ability to prioritise work and respond effectively to changing priorities and deadlines, and
• demonstrate their understanding of, and commitment to, the agency Values and Code of Conduct.

In addition, the Assistant Director will achieve quality outcomes through:
• strong attention to detail
• well-developed liaison, communication and stakeholder management skills
• demonstrated skills and experience with coordination tasks in a high-pressure environment
• a personal commitment and demonstrated ability to identify opportunities for innovation, process improvement and reform, and
• ability to work independently and as a part of high performing team.

The Assistant Director will demonstrate these abilities by undertaking some or all of the following:
• developing policies and procedures to further strengthen governance
• managing the provision of secretariat support for various internal / external fora, including:
o Secretaries’ Digital Committee
o Digital Leadership Committee
o Chief Information Officers’ Forum
o Executive Board
• managing coordination activities as required to support the agency’s contribution to portfolio-wide and strategic consultation, including the development of briefings for the Chief Executive Officer
• staff supervision including capability development through training and coaching, performance feedback and career development
• contributing to the overall work of the Governance & Secretariat and Ministerial, Parliamentary & Cabinet teams by working flexibly, including performing duties associated with other positions as required
