Job Description

The Windows DevOps Engineer is accountable under general direction to undertake complex administration, integration and problem management of Commercial Off The Shelf and Open Source information management applications in an operational Windows environment of virtual machines and cloud infrastructure.
Skills and Knowledge:
  1. Essential - experience with installation and configuration of open source and/or commercial software packages into a virtual or containerised Windows environment.
  2. Essential – Experience configuring software systems and associated hosting environments to meet ICT security policy and procedures.
  3. Essential – Experience building and improving automated deployment and support processes with PowerShell and other Windows Server compatible scripting languages.
Major Responsibilities:
  1. Support System software: Take responsibility for ensuring System Software is current. Patch operating systems and applications; diagnose and resolve system and environment problems, implement break-fixes for diverse customers from individual users to system stakeholders. Evaluate and implement software updates and environment updates such as cloud-based infrastructure. Identify and initiate improvements to architecture and configurations. Update system features or behaviour to meet customer needs as provided through requirements capture by other team members.
  2. System Integration: Take a lead role in the Systems Integration process. Conduct secure and robust transformations of existing data sets to meet environmental changes and business requirements; test software under environmental changes such as browser, proxy, firewall, network, load management and operating system changes; review, update and test software changes and patches to ensure system integrity and security, coordinate outages, draw on external resources as needed and provide specialist advice to colleagues.
  3. Problem management: Take responsibility for the Problem Management Process. Identify, investigate, analyse and resolve operational problems. Research and undertake proactive maintenance addressing capability deficiencies or ongoing system performance issues under changing environmental factors. Collaborate with technical staff supporting related services in other teams to resolve issues with web services or where web service operation affects other services.  Provide system status updates to stakeholders by email, updates to tasking systems and in person.
Location and Contract Term: The role is based in Canberra. 12 or 24 month contracts will be considered.
SFIA security level required: The Specified Person will be expected to demonstrate attributes of SFIA Level of Responsibility 5.
Security Requirements: Current Top-Secret Positive Vetting (TSPV) security clearance is strongly preferred, however candidates who have held a TSPV in the previous 12-month period (which has since been downgraded) may be considered.
