Position 1 - SOGC Assistant Director - Policy Team

As an Assistant Director in the Policy team you will:
  • Contribute to developing and delivering high quality policy services for internal and external clients. This includes using policy development and legislative frameworks.
  • Employ productive working relationships to achieve individual, team and organisational objectives. This includes collaborative analysis, research and liaison with internal and external clients.
  • Contribute to delivering business results with integrity. This includes policy development, implementation and evaluation.
  • Further assist the business area through contributing to improved ways of policy thinking, engaging and delivering. This includes policy innovation.
  • Inspire trust internally and externally and contribute to a workplace where people are encouraged to improve business results and enhance organisational culture. This includes better ways to develop and deliver robust policy for the ACT Government and its citizens.
This position may involve direct supervision of staff.

WHAT YOU REQUIRE
The following capabilities form the criteria that are required to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
Professional / Technical Skills and Knowledge
1. Demonstrated ability to deliver program and policy activities and outcomes that translate government’s broader agenda. This includes a strong understanding of public sector policy design, delivery and evaluation.
2. Well-developed administrative and organisational skills, and a demonstrated ability to plan, prioritise, co-ordinate and deliver in a busy business environment. This may involve working independently and also cooperatively within a team, potentially managing staff.
3. Proven ability to prepare and coordinate complex and/or sensitive submissions, briefs, papers and correspondence, while managing competing priorities and tight deadlines.
4. Excellent communication skills and demonstrated capacity to represent the directorate in high-level consultations with a variety of key stakeholders.
5. Demonstrated understanding and commitment to the TCCS Values framework, workplace respect, equity and diversity framework, workplace health and safety best practise and industrial democracy principles and practise.

Position 2 - ASO6 Senior Policy Officer

As the Senior Policy Officer you will perform the following functions with a primary focus on waste policy development:
  • Undertake the preparation of papers such as briefings, policy, codes of practice and regulations.
  • Investigate and present information with recommendations for decisions.
  • Draft responses to complex correspondence, inquiries and investigations, analysing opportunities, identifying solutions and coordinating actions identified through government processes.
  • Undertake tasks of a technical nature such as managing papers from working groups and committees.
  • Undertake liaison and co-ordination within and across functions, including representing the agency at meetings, conferences and seminars.
  • Assist in other day to day functions of ACT NoWaste as required.
This position may involve direct supervision of lower classification staff.

1. Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely, build effective relationships and work collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
2. Demonstrated understanding in developing, informing, guiding and reviewing policy in support of government programs and initiatives and the ability to effectively deliver time sensitive, well-constructed advice.
3. Demonstrated ability undertaking evidence-based research, and the ability to analyse data and synthesise knowledge to inform strategic outcomes.
4. Excellent writing skills including the ability to present complex and technical information in a simple and clear manner, and tailor written material to different audiences.
5. Demonstrated understanding and commitment to the TCCS Values framework, workplace respect, equity and diversity framework, workplace health and safety best practise and industrial democracy principles and practise.
6. Demonstrated knowledge of or experience in waste or related fields such as environment, climate change and sustainability policy.

Contract term: 6 month contract

Eligibility/Other Requirements: To be eligible for temporary employment within the ACT Public Service you must be in Australia on a visa with work rights or be an Australian citizen or permanent resident. CMTEDD security clearance is required for this role.
