Job Description

Whizdom is working with a Federal Government client looking for one APS6 Lead Auditor and three APS5 Auditor in Canberra. 

About the Role:

In this role you will be responsible for the following:
  • Prepare the Annual Audit Plan by applying the Department's Risk Assessment Tool across existing authorisations to identify target operations / activities for auditing
  • Conducting audits, both desktop and field-based site audits as allotted to you in accordance with the aforementioned Annual Audit Plan and in accordance with the Department's Audit Procedure
  • Establishing the audit criteria (compliance checklists) in order to assess compliance by authorisation holders with the conditions of their authorisation and regulatory requirements
  • Obtaining and verifying evidence of completion of any actions by the authorisation holder required by the Department
  • Preparing or contributing to the Audit Report including providing clear audit findings and recommendations for improvement, or corrective actions required to achieve compliance
  • Following up with the auditee within a time agreed with the auditee or prescribed by the Department to obtain evidence of completion of the action
  • Recommending further compliance and/or enforcement action through the avenues available to the Department in the event that the authorisation holder has not completed required compliance actions
  • Lead a small team of auditors on more complex audits delegating responsibilities according to skills and experience to ensure that the audit objectives and outcomes can achieved
NOTE: This role may involve travel to regional and remote locations, prolonged periods of standing/walking, driving long distances and travel on vessels.  Applicants will need to be physically fit and may be required to undertake medical assessments to prove their capacity to undertake this work.

Essential requirements
Skills and capabilities from the selection criteria that candidates will be assessed against include:
  • Demonstrated capability to collect information through effective interviewing, listening, observing and reviewing documented information, including records and data
  • Knowledge and skills in audit principles, processes and methods
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing
  • Competency in to verifying the relevance and accuracy of collected information
  • Able to understand the type of audited organisation, governance, size, structure, functions and relationships
  • Sensitively address cultural and social aspects of the audited organisation
  • Demonstrated commitment to and focus on WHS and have the ability to travel and visit sites around the county for the purpose of conducting site audits
  • Knowledge of applicable statutory and regulatory requirements
  • Competence to maintain the confidentiality and security of information
  • Applicants must hold and maintain a valid Australian motor vehicle drivers’ licence
Desirable experience/qualifications
  • Formal qualifications in auditing such as Diploma of Quality Auditing (or equivalent)
  • Qualifications in a relevant area of marine, biological, natural resources, environmental science or management are desirable but not essential for this role
  • Experience with Commonwealth, State or Territory marine or national parks management
Lead Auditor essential requirements and qualifications
The Lead Auditor, in addition to the above, must:
  • Have knowledge and skills necessary to lead a small team of auditors on more complex audits, delegate responsibilities according to skills and experience and ensure that the audit objectives and outcomes are achieved
  • Formal qualifications in auditing such as Diploma of Quality Auditing (or equivalent)
  • Be certified as a Lead Auditor or a Principal Auditor by an accredited organisation
 Contract term: 12-months initial contract
Contract extensions: Possibility of up to 12 months options to extend
Eligibility/Other Requirements: To be eligible for temporary employment within the Australian Public Service you must be an Australian citizen. Police Check is required for this role.
