Job Description

Our large government department client is seeking a Senior Developer to assist with the development of the CHIPs program. This position would provide software engineering input and provide key architectural and code input to the CHIPs program. The position would require a fundamental understanding of internet services, networking, distributed systems and modern software engineering best practices.
Candidates will report to CESAR Project Managers. There is an expectation that successful candidates will work 5 days per week (estimated 40 hour week). On boarding is in Canberra.

Skills and Knowledge required / Major Responsibilities:
  1. Demonstrated understanding of best practice software engineering practices.
  2. Experience in leading a team of developers.
  3. Developing using the Python programming language.
  4. Experience with cloud IaaS environments (preferably AWS).
  5. Experience in designing and developing distributed systems.
  6. Experience in managing database and messaging products.
  7. Using software engineering tools.
Desirable criteria
  1. Experience with Linux containers.
  2. Knowledge of networking concepts, including TCP/IP, NAT, DNS, HTTPS and SMTP.
  3. Experience with enabling software developers in delivering capability.
  4. High attention to detail with solid documentation skills and good communication skills with various stakeholders
  5. Experience with CI/CD solutions.
  6. Ability to manage concurrent tasks with competing priorities.
  7. Demonstrates ability to adapt to and accommodate changes, at both the project level and solution level.
The position is full time onsite in our Canberra Offices only.
Location of work: Canberra ACT.
Length of contract: 12 months with an initial 3 month probation period
Contract extensions: 12 months subject to Organisational Suitability Assessment and Funds Availability
Security Requirements: Due to the nature of the work, we require the minimum NV1 security clearance.
