Job Description

The Senior Project Manager will be accountable under the general direction of a Program Manager for the management of projects, typically (but not exclusively) involving the development and implementation of business processes to meet identified business needs, acquiring and utilising the necessary resources and skills, within agreed parameters of cost, timescales, and quality. The adoption and adaptation of project management methodologies based on the context of the project and selecting appropriately from predictive (plan-driven) approaches or adaptive (iterative/agile) approaches.
The role will involve working with business stakeholders, software developers and / or administrators, system architects / analysts, testers and business analyst personnel.

Skills and Knowledge required / Major Responsibilities:
  1. Actively promotes the improvement and enhancement of organisational project methodologies. Works on continuous improvement processes by developing and enhancing procedures. Adopts appropriate project management methods and tools whether plan-driven or iterative / agile.
  2. Drives activities for requirements analysis, system design, testing, implementation and transition to operations. Ensures Quality reviews occur on schedule and according to procedure. Captures and disseminates technical and business information, including change control and quality reporting.
  3. Plans, initiates and manages procurement activities to support wider project and organisational requirements.
  4. Produces project documentation including but not limited to Project Plan/Proposal, Stage Plans (including reviews and reporting on progress), Exception and Completion Reports. Leads and manages project reviews and reporting mechanisms.
  5. Conducts financial management, identifies, assesses and manages risks and issues to the success of the project, taking advantage of opportunities to guide decision-making and priority setting. Escalates issues and seeks advice from executive management in a timely manner.
 
Location of work: Canberra ACT
Length of contract: 12 and 24 month contracts will be considered, unless negotiated otherwise.
 
Security Requirements: Due to the nature of the work, the mandatory clearance level required to apply for these roles is Negative Vetting 2 (NV2), however Top Secret Positive Vetting (TSPV) clearance holders will be given preference. All successful candidates will be required to upgrade to or gain acceptance of their TSPV clearance prior to commencement and depending on the age and / or level of their current clearance, could take 3-12 months.
