Job Description

The Role:

• Infrastructure Specialist required for designing, building, deploying, documenting, transitioning and assisting with supporting production infrastructure solutions.

• Maintain in-depth knowledge of IT infrastructure technologies and provide specialist advice and guidance to the Department.

• Identifying and automating points of manual work when onboarding new systems;

• Maintaining existing integration and delivery pipelines;

• Providing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) support;

• Develop and maintain environment and infrastructure designs working collaboratively with the architecture teams.

• Facilitate technical aspects of collaboration and infrastructure requirements with third party vendors such as data or service providers, hosting facilities, cloud teams etc;

• Actively work to automate our infrastructure provisioning and deployment approach;

• Investigate and trial processes and tools that could improve deployment / environment processes.

• Maintain infrastructure including continuous integration, automated builds and automated build verification testing.

• Working with development, operations and project management teams to plan product releases;

• Working closely with engineering teams to automate, build and design platforms that support products and systems; and

• Assisting in the development of frameworks, practices and skills needed to provide DevOps as ‘Everything as a Service’.

• Lead the implementation of solution architectures where those architectures are centred on IT infrastructure.

• Collaborate with the Department’s Architecture team to address IT infrastructure concerns during the development of information system architectures.

• Contribute to the specifications for procurement of IT infrastructure products and services and contribute to evaluation of market responses.

• Produce detailed infrastructure designs for implementation, based on Departmental architecture patterns and if required produce high-level designs for handover to other technical resources.

• Develop operational standards that guide the consistent use of technologies, techniques, methods and tools.

• Coordinate the implementation of information systems and services across multiple IT infrastructure operational disciplines to maximise reuse of common procedures and supporting technologies.

• Maintain an awareness of the global needs of the organisation and promote the benefits that a common approach to IT deployment will bring to the business as a whole, among information systems and business management.

• Where required - System Administration functions, incident and problem resolution.


Skills and Experience Required:

You will be able to demonstrate strong ability, understanding, knowledge and expertise with the below systems, networks, services and applications, including but not limited to:

• Cloud technologies – VRA, Azure, AWS, Cloudformation

• Microsoft SQL Server Design and Administration

• Automation and scripting languages - primarily PowerShell

• Toolsets – Microsoft TFS, Jenkins, Git, Artifactory

• Microsoft Windows Server operating systems

• Active Directory

• Certificate Services

• Linux

• Continuous integration/delivery/deployment


Location and Contract Term: This is a Canberra based role. 12 month contract with approx start date at end of January 2022. 1 x 12 month contract extension option pending budget and delegate approval.
