Overview

Our Government client is currently seeking an Actuary Analyst.  This is a team membership position that may be required to perform work that involves team leadership responsibilities, requiring the setting of priorities and allocating work to other lower level team members within a team. You will undertake activities and tasks using available information where options are not always evident. You will be required to perform procedural, clerical, administrative and operational tasks that supports and contributes to objectives.

You will have a considerable level of contact with stakeholders and will be required to communicate with and provide advice on a range of matters to resolve moderately complex to complex enquiries. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
  • Extracting, cleansing and preparing of data from multiple sources, in particular the data warehouse, and advising on appropriate data checks for reasonableness.
  • Updating and development of regular performance monitoring.
  • Supporting the Scheme Actuary Division to fulfill statutory requirements including the provision of data and analysis for reporting to the Board, Minister and for the purpose of public data sharing.
  • Utilising statistical and mathematical modelling techniques to undertake analytical work on a range of tasks, including actuarial monitoring and analyses, data tabulations, scheme projects and cost benefit analyses.
  • Undertaking ad hoc modelling requests and report production.
  • Effectively communicating (verbal and written) the progress of work responsibilities and outcomes of work undertaken.

Essential
  • Knowledge of statistical techniques and methods
  • Strong problem solving skills, analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Experience working with large datasets
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel
  • Effective communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Candidate must possess relevant academic qualifications including tertiary qualifications in Actuarial Studies or Mathematics/Statistics, with significant progress towards Associate and/or Fellowship qualifications

Desirable
  • Experience using SAS (preferred)/SQL/R/other programming languages and/or analytics platforms desirable
  • Adaptable and responsive to a continuously changing environment
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment

Location and Contract Term:
This role is based in Dandenong VIC, with an estimated start date of 14 January for 12 months (7.5 hr day).
