Seeking an NV1 Chief Engineer in Canberra for a 12-month contract (possible extension).
The Chief Engineer will work as part of a project team to drive operational and engineering excellence
across the broader engineering team. The successful candidate will have significant prior involvement
working in senior engineering roles and will be able to demonstrate extensive knowledge and experience
of modern engineering techniques and principles. The role holder will be accountable for setting the
engineering direction of the project and collaborating with personnel at all levels to ensure a successful
outcome.
Role Responsibilities
• Defines all engineering policies and procedures and standards relevant to the project, including those related to the SDLC and any CI/CD methodologies employed to support the delivery.
• Performs quality control of developed capabilities to ensure they meet defined standards and are fit for purpose prior to Design Authority sign-off.
• Provides technical direction and mentoring to a multi-disciplinary engineering team.
• Works closely with test and release teams to define V&V and release processes that align with defined standards.
• Develops and presents highly technical presentations to senior client stakeholders.
• Develops, maintains and educates personnel on the engineering handbook.
• Stays current with engineering best practices and applies them where appropriate.
Essential Experience
• 10 years + experience working in a systems engineering capacity.
• Demonstrable experience in all facets of modern systems engineering.
• Experience working in software development and/or with DevOps teams.
• Strong understand of Infrastructure as Code and infrastructure automation.
• General CI/CD and DevSecOps experience.
• Experience working in Government Secure Environments.
• Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems.
• NV1 with the ability to pass additional security assessments.
• Previous experience working in a network operations role highly desirable.
Desirable Qualities
• Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and context switch quickly
• Ability to work in a team environment
• Ability to deal with ambiguity and change
• Ability to create and maintain formal and informal networks
• A keen eye for detail and ability to see the bigger picture
• Excellent verbal and written skills
