Our client is a major enterprise undertaking a strategic migration of web application firewall (WAF) infrastructure to Cloudflare. This role is pivotal in ensuring secure, seamless, and optimised protection for business-critical applications and services.
About the role:
We are seeking an experienced Cloudflare SME to lead and execute the migration of WAF from existing platforms to Cloudflare. You’ll play a key role in planning, implementing, and validating the migration, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver robust security and performance outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders (security, IT, DevOps, engineering) to define migration scope, timelines, and objectives.
- Assess current WAF configurations and translate them into Cloudflare, ensuring compatibility with security policies and business requirements.
- Document migration strategy, including risk assessments, fallback procedures, and testing protocols.
- Implement Cloudflare WAF, configuring rules, security features (bot management, rate limiting), CDN, DDoS, and custom settings.
- Migrate DNS records, traffic management policies, and SSL configurations to Cloudflare.
- Ensure proper routing of traffic to avoid downtime or disruptions during migration.
- Conduct extensive testing and validation of Cloudflare WAF configurations pre- and post-migration.
- Verify effectiveness of Cloudflare’s security features, including bot mitigation, DDoS protection, and rule matching.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during migration.
- Monitor and optimise Cloudflare WAF performance post-migration.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of migration processes, configurations, and results.
- Provide regular updates to stakeholders on migration progress, challenges, and outcomes.
- Coordinate with network engineers, security specialists, and DevOps teams for cross-functional collaboration.
- Communicate migration timelines, risks, and outcomes clearly to senior leadership and technical teams.
- Proven experience in Cloudflare WAF implementation projects, specifically migration from existing WAF to Cloudflare.
- Strong expertise in Cloudflare platforms, with hands-on experience configuring and managing WAF, CDN, DNS, and security settings.
- In-depth understanding of web security principles, DDoS protection, bot mitigation, SSL/TLS, and application layer protection.
- Proficiency with DNS management and SSL/TLS configuration.
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting and resolving performance and security-related issues in cloud environments.
- Trained and certified on Cloudflare WAF Platform.
- Experience implementing Cloudflare WAF, CDN, DDoS, Bot Management, etc.
- Experience with DevOps tools, CI/CD pipelines, and application deployment processes.
- Experience in cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
This is a 6-month contract role based in Melbourne, with an immediate start available. You’ll play a key role in delivering secure, resilient, and high-performance web application protection in a dynamic, enterprise environment.
