The Desktop Engineer provides technical support and maintenance across the organisation’s desktop environment. This includes managing application packaging and deployment, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, supporting Microsoft Intune and SCCM environments, and assisting with device configuration and policy enforcement. The role also contributes to strategic initiatives such as Windows 11 migration, endpoint analytics, and cross-platform device management.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience in desktop support, endpoint management, and policy creation, with a focus on improving operational efficiency and user experience.
Key duties and responsibilities
SOE Deployment & Device Provisioning
- Build and deploy Windows devices using Intune and Standard Operating Environment (SOE) configurations.
- Develop and maintain the organisation’s SOE across laptops and desktops.
- Provision and support devices using Microsoft Intune and SCCM.
- Create, maintain, and enforce device configuration and compliance policies using Intune.
- Ensure policies align with organisational security standards and operational needs.
- Package and deploy new software, upgrades, and updates via Intune.
- Manage deployment rings and detection rules for seamless rollout.
- Package and deploy security patching, including firmware revisions.
- Provide advanced support for Intune-managed devices, including specialist PCs used for video/audio processing.
- Diagnose and resolve complex ICT incidents and problems related to network, authentication, and policy conflicts.
- Implement ACSC Essential Eight controls across endpoints.
- Support BitLocker encryption, AppLocker/WDAC policies, and endpoint protection strategies.
- Provide technical advice on hardware and software to support procurement processes.
- Prepare and maintain Standard Operating Procedures and knowledgebase articles.
- Contribute to setting priorities and achieving team objectives.
Skills and Experience Required:
- Candidaes need to have proven recent experience in: M365 Apps, application packaging, PowerShell scripting and Level 3 troubleshooting skills
Location and Contract Term: This role is based in Canberra. Contract till June 2026 with 2 x 6-month extension option pending budget and delegate approval. Flexible working arrangements, including work-from-home options, are available to the candidate. However, onsite attendance will be required. within this role.
Security Requirements: Applicants must be Australian Citizens and hold a NV1 Security Clearance
