Overview
We are seeking an experienced EL1 DevOps Engineer to join a high-performing data services team within a large-scale government environment. This is a senior-level opportunity to lead technical design and implementation of data warehouse enhancements, working across multiple platforms and technologies.
About the Role
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, delivery-focused environment. You’ll be responsible for refining data delivery frameworks, guiding developers, and ensuring best practices in data modelling and DevOps processes. You’ll also contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality data solutions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading technical design reviews and workshops
- Developing and maintaining SQL analytical and ETL code
- Managing product backlog items and prioritising work
- Conducting peer reviews and knowledge transfer sessions
- Collaborating with testers, data consumers, and support teams
- Maintaining system documentation and contributing to platform enhancements
You will be a passionate and diligent professional with strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset. You bring:
Essential experience:
- Proven coding experience in at least three of the following: MS SQL, Teradata, Snowflake, Redshift, Databricks
- High-level programming skills in Python, SAS, R, or Java
- Strong SQL expertise and experience with ETL frameworks like DBT or SQLMesh
- Experience customising SAS Visual Investigator models and workflows
- Understanding of DevOps processes and version control systems
- Monitoring system health using SAS tools
- Exposure to AWS services (e.g., S3, Glue)
- Metadata-driven data modelling frameworks
- Tertiary qualifications in mathematics, statistics, computer science, or 3+ years relevant experience
