About the role:
We are seeking a skilled Windows and VMware System Administrator for a 6-month contract based in Melbourne, with an immediate start. You will be responsible for managing and supporting the organisation’s IT infrastructure, including Windows servers, VMware virtualization, and Active Directory (AD). The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise in system administration, security best practices, and automation.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and maintain Windows servers for optimal performance.
  • Apply OS patches, updates, and security fixes using SCCM.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot server performance and availability.
  • Configure security policies, including group policies, firewall settings, and anti-malware.
  • Ensure compliance with CIS best practices for Windows servers.
  • Deploy and manage VMware vSphere environments, including ESXi hosts and vCenter.
  • Create and manage virtual machines (VMs) and templates.
  • Monitor and optimize VMware environment performance and resource usage.
  • Configure and manage VMware Site Recovery Manager (SRM) and perform disaster recovery operations.
  • Use VMware Aria Operations for capacity and health monitoring.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, virtual network, and storage issues.
  • Manage Active Directory domains, trusts, forests, and replication.
  • Administer user accounts, group memberships, and permissions.
  • Implement and manage Group Policy Objects (GPOs) for security and configuration.
  • Maintain AD backup and recovery plans, including testing restore scenarios.
  • Automate routine tasks using PowerShell, vSphere CLI, and other tools.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of configurations and procedures.
  • Provide Level 2/3 support for escalated infrastructure issues.
  • Mentor team members on best practices.
  • Support Azure cloud platform management.
Key Skills:
  • Windows Server administration and troubleshooting.
  • VMware vSphere and ESXi management.
  • Active Directory and Group Policy management.

What’s on offer?

This is a 6-month contract role based in Melbourne, offering a daily rate of $480 - $552 AUD including super. You’ll play a key role in maintaining and enhancing a mission-critical IT infrastructure, working alongside a highly skilled technical team in a fast-paced environment.
