About the Client
Our client is a large Australian Government organisation delivering nationally significant scientific and measurement services that underpin Australia’s economy, regulatory frameworks, and public safety. Operating world‑class laboratories across multiple states, the organisation supports government and industry through advanced analytical services, research, and nationally recognised standards.
They are currently undertaking a major technology uplift to modernise and streamline critical laboratory systems, improving efficiency, security, and service delivery across their laboratories.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced LIMS Software Engineer (Developer) to contribute to a large‑scale Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) implementation and simplification program.
In this role, you will work closely with developers, laboratory subject matter experts, project managers, and external LIMS vendors to configure, develop, test, and support a new LIMS platform. You will be involved end‑to‑end—from requirements gathering and solution design through to development, testing, documentation, and user support.
This is a 12‑month contract with the possibility of extension, operating in a hybrid work environment with flexibility across multiple Australian locations.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Participating in requirements gathering and solution design workshops
  • Providing technical input into LIMS solution design and configuration
  • Developing and coding new LIMS functionality and macros
  • Performing system, unit, and user acceptance testing
  • Troubleshooting and resolving defects
  • Producing and maintaining technical documentation
  • Supporting end‑user training and BAU enhancements
  • Working collaboratively with LIMS administrators and laboratory teams
  • Upholding best‑practice software engineering standards and safety protocols
The Successful Candidate
The ideal candidate will be a hands‑on developer with strong technical capability and experience working in complex, stakeholder‑driven environments.
You will bring:
  • Tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, Science, or a related discipline
  • Demonstrated experience developing or supporting LIMS or similar data management systems
  • Strong software engineering skills, including configuration, scripting, and testing
  • Experience working in scientific or laboratory environments (highly regarded)
  • Proven ability to gather requirements and translate them into technical solutions
  • Excellent documentation, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • A proactive mindset, strong attention to detail, and the ability to prioritise workload
Experience mentoring developers, contributing to solution design, or supporting large system implementations will be highly regarded.

Location: The role can be performed from capital cities across QLD, WA, ACT, VIC, NSW, NT, SA, TAS .
Contract terms: 12 months from commencement date, plus rolling extensions at our clients discretion.
Experience Level: Senior – APS6 Equivalent
Security Requirements: Must be an Australian Citizens with an active Baseline or higher security clearance.
