Our client is a high‑profile Australian Government national security organisation responsible for safeguarding Australia’s interests, delivering advanced cybersecurity capabilities, and supporting the broader National Intelligence Community (NIC).

About the Role
A significant cloud transformation program is underway, aimed at introducing commercial hyperscale cloud capabilities into a secure intelligence environment for the NIC.
As the Principal Cloud Enterprise Architect, you will play a key role in shaping and governing enterprise‑level cloud architecture across multiple strategic initiatives. You’ll operate within a multidisciplinary team of specialists from across government and industry.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the development and governance of a secure cloud services catalogue and third‑party SaaS integration process.
- Collaborating with community stakeholders and cloud vendors to establish service delivery frameworks, governance structures, and terms of reference for providers.
- Creating and maintaining enterprise cloud roadmaps, architectural models, patterns, and standards aligned with organisational objectives.
- Evaluating cloud services for feasibility, business value, and alignment with strategic and technical requirements.
- Translating complex business and technology needs into actionable architectural designs.
- Identifying risks, constraints, policy gaps and architectural changes needed to support cloud adoption.
The Successful Candidate
Essential
- Demonstrated experience with AWS dedicated cloud environments, including isolation boundaries and secure architectural models.
- Ability to align AWS cloud architectures with strategic policy, risk frameworks, and high‑level operational directives.
- Expertise in boundary protection and secure networking: Transit Gateways, AWS PrivateLink, and Cross‑Domain Solutions.
- Mastery of ICAM at scale, including integration with complex AD environments and government‑mandated authentication models.
- Strong capability in automated governance using AWS Control Tower, SCPs, AWS Config, and preventative guardrails.
Desirable
- Experience developing secure CI/CD pipelines for disconnected or constrained environments.
- Background modernising sensitive legacy systems into microservices while maintaining strict data custodianship.
- Experience within a NIC or similar secure government environment.
Qualifications & Experience
- Enterprise Architecture certification (e.g., TOGAF or Zachman) preferred.
- Formal cloud certification or training required.
- Minimum 3+ years designing and implementing cloud solutions in complex environments.
Candidates must also be willing to undergo an Organisational Suitability Assessment (OSA) prior to engagement.

Location: The role is based in Canberra ACT.
Contract terms: 12 months from commencement date, plus potential extensions
SFIA level required: The Specified Person will be expected to demonstrate attributes of SFIA Level of Responsibility 5.
Security Requirements: Current Top-Secret Positive Vetting (TSPV) security clearance is strongly preferred, however candidates who have held a TSPV in the previous 12-month period (which has since been downgraded) may be considered. An OSA(Organisational Suitability Assessment) will be required for this position.
