About the End Client
The end client is a large, complex enterprise operating in a highly regulated environment where secure, reliable, and well‑governed APIs are essential. You’ll be supporting major transformation initiatives that require robust integration design, strong stakeholder engagement, and end‑to‑end delivery leadership.
About the Role
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced API Tech Lead to drive end‑to‑end delivery of a program of work, working closely with business stakeholders and engineering teams to define requirements, document functional specifications, and deliver scalable API solutions.
You will operate in an Agile delivery environment, lead technical solutioning and interface design, support development teams, and mentor junior engineers to uplift capability and delivery outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive end‑to‑end delivery across the program, including requirements discussions and finalising functional/technical documentation (FSDs and interface documents).
- Partner with business teams to define functional requirements for new services.
- Support reviews and sign‑offs with technical leads and stakeholders.
- Work within an Agile team structure to document and communicate changes effectively.
- Document API requirements, designs, and functional specifications to a high standard.
- Design and build robust integration interfaces to connect multiple systems and technologies.
- Collaborate with internal and external consultants in workshops and delivery engagements.
- Proactively contribute to remediation of software issues related to code quality, security, and patterns/frameworks.
- Mentor junior consultants/engineers and contribute to capability uplift.
Core Technical Skills
- Java 8+
- Spring Framework 5.x, Spring Boot 2.x
- Testing & quality: JUnit 5, Mockito, strong TDD practices
- Tooling: Postman, Java logging frameworks, strong IDE usage
- Experience delivering and supporting API frameworks
- Experience in Infrastructure / DevOps design
- Maven, Git, Splunk, Bamboo, Swagger
- Design patterns and engineering standards
- Strong ability to operate as a tech lead across delivery and stakeholder engagement.
- Excellent debugging skills and clean, efficient coding practices.
- Banking project experience (mandatory).
