About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Applications & Environment Technician to support the development, build, configuration, maintenance, and documentation of secure standalone ICT environments. This is a hands‑on technical role, working closely with architecture, infrastructure, and security stakeholders to ensure systems are production‑ready, compliant, and reliable.
The role is Canberra‑based and suited to candidates with experience working in high‑assurance or Defence‑aligned environments.
Role Responsibilities
- Develop, build, configure, support, and maintain secure standalone ICT environments
- Create and maintain Standard Operating Environment (SOE) images
- Package and deploy applications into secure desktop environments
- Deploy SOEs to physical and virtual desktops and provide ongoing support
- Administer Active Directory Domain Services, including domain controllers, FSMO roles, replication, and schema
- Administer Microsoft Exchange 2016/2019/SE in secure, standalone environments
- Manage user, device, and security policies, including Group Policy Objects (GPOs)
- Ensure SOE configurations meet organisational security and compliance requirements
- Produce and maintain technical documentation, build instructions, SOPs, and support artefacts
- Collaborate with security, infrastructure, and development teams to ensure successful integration and assurance
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement across SOE and environment management
- Strong understanding of Australian Government and Defence security standards, including ACSC ISM / E8
- Experience administering Active Directory in secure environments
- Experience administering Microsoft Exchange in isolated or standalone environments
- Experience with PowerShell, application packaging, and SOE/MOE deployment
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound technical judgement
- Experience working within assurance or governance frameworks
- Experience within Defence or other secure government environments
- Strong technical documentation skills (SOPs, FAQs, build guides)
- Experience with ITSM tools such as Defence Service Management System
- Ability to adapt to changing requirements within complex programs
- Contract opportunity based in Canberra
