The business area is responsible for the application of data and business analysis to define, develop, deliver and manage insights for business.
We do this by applying strong analytical and data domain knowledge to support the Departments strategic initiatives through:
- leveraging data to provide valuable analysis and insights across the Department through scalable products tailored to meet client requirements
- working with our clients to better meet their needs while driving efficiency through process improvement and automation
- enabling clients to self-service, allowing them to discover, access, analyse and visualise data to improve their decision making and business outcomes
- providing business analysis services to identify and define needs, evaluate, recommend solutions, plan and implement business improvements that deliver value to the organisation.
About the Role
As a Business Analyst in this role, you’ll partner with stakeholders to identify and implement advanced AI use cases that support the Department and its people to make the right decisions at the right time.
You‘ll work with business areas to understand their context, their needs and how they produce value. You’ll work with data scientists, data engineers and technical stakeholders to design fit-for-purpose advanced analytic solutions, and ensure they meet stakeholder needs. You’ll produce documentation to support delivery across the AI lifecycle, demonstrating both the solution’s value and its compliance with policy and technical constraints.
Your expertise will support the team in defining and documenting current and future states, user pathways, business rules, use cases, business and functional requirements, and solution designs—including testing and release specifications, ensuring alignment with policy intent and service delivery objectives.
You will demonstrate strategic leadership by guiding complex business analysis tasks, leveraging enterprise systems, digital tools, and data insights to navigate ambiguity and deliver measurable, policy-aligned outcomes.

- has experience in the application of customised generative AI technologies to specific use cases
- plans and leads business analysis in complex environments, translating diverse stakeholder needs into actionable requirements
- manages requirements through the delivery lifecycle, and empowers stakeholders to identify and navigate trade-offs between feasibility, viability and desirability
- provides expert advice on analysis methodologies, interpreting business and policy needs to inform strategic solution design and delivery
- gathers and investigates data from multiple sources to identify risks, assess impacts, and support evidence-based improvement strategies
- uses effective communication to engage with stakeholders on complex technical and regulatory information, and can negotiate and influence decisions
Location and Contract Term: This role can be based in Adelaide, Box Hill, Brisbane CBD, Canberra, Dandenong, Melbourne CBD, Moonee Ponds, Newcastle, Parramatta, Sydney CBD, Upper Mt Gravatt or Wollongong. 12 month contract with 1 x 12- month contract extension options pending budget and delegate approval.
