About the role:
The Technical Business Analyst will work closely with business stakeholders and technical teams to gather and document data requirements, analyse source systems, and define the business rules needed to support analytics and data‑driven solutions.
The role also includes working with business teams to perform data discovery and understand how data is captured, used, and interpreted across the organisation.
The Technical BA will translate business needs into clear technical specifications, including source‑to‑target mappings, data dictionaries, and workflow diagrams, and will support the creation and refinement of Power BI datasets and semantic models.
They will validate Power BI visualisations and reports through detailed testing and UAT support, assist in resolving data‑related issues, and ensure alignment with data governance standards. Strong communication and workshop‑facilitation skills are essential, along with the ability to produce clear, well‑structured slide decks and present complex data concepts in an accessible way to both business and technical audiences.
Required Experience:
- Requirements Gathering and Analysis
- Work with business stakeholders to understand data needs, reporting requirements, KPIs, metrics, and business rules.
- Stakeholder Communication and Management
- Run workshops, clarify requirements, manage expectations, and ensure alignment across teams.
- Presentation and visual communication
- Prepare clear slide decks, diagrams, and visual explanations of data flows or findings; present recommendations to stakeholders; tailor communication for both technical and executive audiences.
The Successful Candidate
Data Analysis
- Profile source data, identify data quality issues, understand data structures, and document data definitions.
Translation between business and technical teams
- Convert business requirements into technical specifications for PowerBI Developers.
Functional and technical documentation
- Prepare source‑to‑target mappings, data dictionaries, workflow diagrams, and interface specifications.
Support Data modelling
- Collaborate with modelers to define logical/physical data models and confirm they meet business needs.
- Work with engineers to define transformation rules, validate mapping logic against requirements.
Testing and validation
- Create test cases, perform data validation, support UAT, and confirm that PowerBI Visualisations, reports, and dashboards meet requirements.
