About the End Client
The end client is a large organisation operating in a regulated environment with strong governance requirements. This role supports the uplift of cloud cost governance through automation—improving cost compliance, tagging controls, and financial reporting across AWS and Azure cloud estates.
About the Role
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Cloud FinOps Automation Engineer to design, implement, and maintain automated financial processes that improve efficiency and reduce manual effort. You will analyse and optimise financial workflows, build automation solutions (including scripts and tooling), and collaborate closely with finance and IT teams to align outcomes with organisational objectives and compliance expectations.
Start: Mid‑June 2026
Locations: Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane, Adelaide
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement financial automation processes to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual tasks.
- Analyse existing financial processes, identify inefficiencies, and design solutions to optimise them.
- Design, develop, and maintain automation software and applications using languages such as Python, Java, or C++.
- Collaborate with finance and IT teams to align automation outcomes with company objectives and compliance requirements.
- Monitor performance and accuracy of automated systems to ensure data consistency and quality.
- Train and support team members in the use of financial automation tools and adoption of new processes.
- Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in financial automation.
- Act as a liaison between finance and IT to facilitate clear communication and delivery alignment.
- Identify and resolve issues or bottlenecks in automation processes quickly and effectively.
- Continuously refine automation solutions for maximum efficiency, reliability, and cost‑effectiveness.
- Strong automation and scripting capability, including familiarity with Python, Java, or C++, and financial software.
- Familiarity with data analytics and cloud computing concepts (blockchain exposure noted as beneficial in the role profile).
- Strong problem‑solving and communication skills.
- 5–10+ years’ experience creating automated cost compliance scripts and producing tagging audit reports.
- Proven experience with Terraform tagging enforcement and automated compliance scanning.
- Strong understanding of Azure & AWS cloud platform services.
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) for developing automation solutions.
- Ability to work in highly structured environments with strict change control and governance models.
- Understanding of ITIL processes(incident, change, problem, configuration management).
- Must hold an active AGSVA Baseline, NV1, or NV2 clearance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Cloud and/or data analytics certifications.
- Experience working in government or highly regulated environments.

- Overtime payable (Mon–Fri excess / weekend / on‑call hours): Yes

- This is a 12-month initial contract with likely extensions
