About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Cyber Security Assurance Specialist to oversee the compliance, governance, and security posture of classified information systems.
Acting as an Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO), you will be responsible for ensuring assigned classified ICT systems maintain compliance with Australian Government and Defence security frameworks. You will work closely with technical teams, project stakeholders, and security leadership to support security accreditation activities, risk management, continuous monitoring, and cyber security governance.
This role is ideal for a cyber security professional with strong knowledge of security accreditation frameworks, security operations, risk management, and classified ICT environments.

Responsibilities
As the Cyber Security Assurance Specialist, you will:
  • Perform the duties of Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) for assigned classified systems and networks.
  • Oversee system compliance and technical security posture under the direction of the Information Systems Security Manager (ISSM).
  • Support the establishment, maintenance, and sustainment of system security authorisations and accreditations.
  • Maintain security documentation, operating procedures, registers, and compliance records.
  • Support hardware and software procurement, specification development, and configuration management activities.
  • Manage user administration and access control processes.
  • Deliver and support Security Education, Training and Awareness (SETA) initiatives.
  • Administer system change control processes to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Conduct security vulnerability assessments and support risk management activities.
  • Perform security monitoring, auditing, and compliance reviews.
  • Support cyber security incident reporting, investigation, and remediation activities.
  • Provide oversight and tasking of System Administrators and Security Administrators.
  • Act as Deputy Information Systems Security Manager (ISSM) when delegated.
  • Provide specialist cyber security and accreditation advice to management and project teams.
  • Contribute to projects and business initiatives requiring cyber security assurance expertise.
  • Assist with broader information security and governance activities as required.
 
What You Will Bring
To be successful in this role, you will have:
  • A minimum of 6 years' experience within cyber security, system administration, information assurance, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience working within classified or highly secure ICT environments.
  • Strong understanding of information system security accreditation, governance, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience managing security risks and implementing security controls across complex ICT systems.
  • Knowledge of continuous monitoring, vulnerability management, and cyber security assurance activities.
  • Experience supporting security audits, assessments, authorisation, and accreditation processes.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to assess complex security issues and recommend practical solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to build trusted stakeholder relationships.
  • Experience supporting cyber security incident response, investigation, and reporting activities.
 
Knowledge of Security Frameworks
You will have experience working with, or a strong understanding of:
  • Australian Government Information Security Manual (ISM)
  • Defence Security Policy Framework (DSPF)
  • Defence Industry Security Program (DISP)
  • NIST-aligned Cyber Security Frameworks
  • Security Risk Management methodologies
  • Cyber Security Incident Response Planning
  • ICT Security Configuration and Continuous Monitoring practices
 
Qualifications
  • Bachelor Degree in Information Technology, Cyber Security, Computer Science, or a related discipline; and/or
  • Relevant industry certifications and professional security qualifications.

Security Requirements
Due to the sensitive nature of the work, applicants must hold a current NV1 security clearance.
This role requires access to highly classified information and systems. Successful applicants must be able to maintain their security clearance and meet all ongoing security, suitability, and compliance obligations associated with working in classified environments.
