The organisation is currently undertaking a major whole-of-government initiative aimed at improving how critical operational data is structured, shared, and governed across agencies to enhance efficiency, transparency, and decision-making.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Data Architect (EL1 equivalent) to support the delivery of a high-profile digital transformation program.
This role will lead the design and development of data architecture foundations, including conceptual and logical data models, standards, and structured data exchange solutions. You will play a key role in enabling interoperability across systems and supporting data-driven decision-making at a national level.
Role Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of conceptual and logical data models
- Translate business and regulatory requirements into structured data solutions
- Define and implement data standards, schemas, and reference data frameworks
- Conduct data mapping across systems and regulatory reporting requirements
- Undertake data stocktakes and assess data quality, risks, and completeness
- Develop structured data exchange artefacts (e.g. XML/message formats)
- Advise on integration approaches and interoperability patterns
- Support data governance, metadata management, and lineage tracking
- Engage and collaborate with cross-agency stakeholders
- Produce high-quality documentation, models, and reusable artefacts
- Support validation, endorsement, and knowledge transfer activities
- Strong experience in data architecture and data modelling (conceptual and logical)
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex business and regulatory requirements into data models
- Experience in data harmonisation, standards, and reference data management
- Knowledge of data exchange structures (e.g. XML) and integration patterns
- Experience in data governance, data quality, metadata, and lineage practices
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- Experience working in government or large enterprise environments (highly desirable)
- Working knowledge of SQL for data profiling and validation
- Exposure to Python, R, Power BI or Tableau (desirable but not essential)
- Contract through to November 2026 with a 6-month extension option
- Opportunity to contribute to a major national digital transformation program

- Baseline Security Clearance required
- Applicants must be Australian Citizens and able to obtain or maintain clearance
