About the Role
An exciting opportunity exists for a Data Architect / Data Engineer to play a key role in designing and delivering end-to-end data platforms across complex environments.
This is a hybrid role combining architecture, engineering, and governance, where you will design scalable solutions while also delivering hands-on development across cloud-based data ecosystems. You’ll work across structured and unstructured data platforms, including integration with enterprise content systems.
Key Responsibilities
Data Architecture & Design
- Design and implement scalable, secure, and high-performing data architectures
- Define conceptual, logical, and physical data models for enterprise use
- Establish architecture patterns for data storage, integration, and access
- Ensure alignment with enterprise security and compliance standards
- Lead provisioning and optimisation of Amazon Aurora and cloud-based databases
- Implement performance tuning, scaling, backup, and recovery strategies
- Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues
- Build and maintain data pipelines (ETL/ELT)
- Design integration across multiple data sources and downstream systems
- Support data migration, transformation, and validation activities
- Establish data governance frameworks and standards
- Implement data quality, lineage, and metadata management processes
- Ensure data remains traceable, consistent, and compliant
- Work with SMEs to integrate structured data systems with enterprise content platforms (e.g. FileNet)
- Ensure consistency across metadata, indexing, and data retrieval mechanisms
- Design solutions aligned with Australian Government security standards
- Ensure compliance with data classification, access control, and encryption requirements
- Support auditability and compliance frameworks (e.g. IRAP)
- Proven experience in both:
- Data Architecture (design, modelling, governance)
- Data Engineering (pipelines, databases, integration)
- Strong hands-on experience with AWS data services(e.g. Aurora, S3, Glue, Lambda)
- Solid expertise in database design, provisioning, and performance tuning
- Experience with Python, SQL, and modern data engineering tooling
- Strong understanding of data governance, lineage, and data quality frameworks
- Experience with data cataloguing and metadata management tools
- Experience integrating with FileNet or enterprise content management platforms
- Familiarity with government or Protected-level environments
- Exposure to data classification and compliance frameworks
- Must be an Australian Citizen
- Must hold an active NV1 Security Clearance
