About the Role
As the Senior Data Migration Specialist / Engineer, you will be responsible for analysing source and target data, designing and validating migration approaches, executing migration activities, and ensuring the quality and integrity of migrated data. You will work across business and technical teams, collaborating with stakeholders, architects, developers, vendors, and testers to deliver successful migration outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Data Analysis & Investigation
- Analyse source and target datasets using SQL.
- Investigate anomalies, data quality issues, and complex data relationships.
- Trace and diagnose data issues across multiple systems.
- Develop and review source-to-target mapping documentation.
- Define transformation rules and manage exceptions.
- Translate business requirements into practical migration solutions.
- Support migration load development and execution.
- Perform test migrations and assess outcomes.
- Troubleshoot migration failures and implement corrective actions.
- Develop SQL-based validation and reconciliation processes.
- Investigate discrepancies between source and target data.
- Produce evidence confirming successful migration outcomes.
- Support migration testing cycles and dress rehearsals.
- Participate in cutover planning and execution.
- Conduct post-migration validation and reconciliation activities.
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:
- Advanced SQL expertise, including creating and managing staging tables within SQL Server.
- Strong experience with Azure, Azure Blob Storage, AWS S3, SQL databases, or similar data platforms.
- Demonstrated experience delivering complex data migration and transformation projects.
- Experience with AWS-to-Azure migration programs or comparable cloud migration initiatives.
- Strong understanding of relational databases and complex data structures.
- Experience with APIs, integrations, and data transformation solutions.
- Excellent data quality, validation, reconciliation, and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong understanding of data governance, security, and access management.
- Ability to operate across both technical implementation and business analysis functions.
- Outstanding communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience migrating documents from AWS S3 to Azure environments.
- Experience using AzCopy, Azure Databricks, and Azure Data Factory.
- Experience working with vendors and third-party integration partners.
- Exposure to complex enterprise transformation programs.
- Migration cutover planning and production migration experience.
- Experience developing repeatable and automated migration processes.
