About the Role

 

The Finance Officer’s primary responsibility is to assist in the day-to-day tasks of our financial, compliance and business operations within the Finance Team.   Under the direction of the Finance Team Lead, the Finance Officer is responsible for undertaking day to day payroll functions, compliance, taxation and evaluating value add services and looking for efficiencies in our business. The other aspect of the role is to offer support to the Finance team and back office operations. This will encompass running reports from MYOB and following up on late payments, assisting with the payments and invoicing process, maintaining company insurances as well as other ad-hoc tasks.  

Key Responsibilities

 

Accounting
  • Prepare and process timesheets for contractor PAYG and ABN payroll
  • Assist with monthly staff Payroll, including leave accruals and balances and processing superannuation.
  • Assis with invoicing and payment processing
  • Assist with taxation (Payroll Tax, GST, Company Tax, BAS, IAS, PAYG, FBT, TPAR)
  • Assist with end of month reconciliations, prepare journals for adjustments.
  • Assist with maintaining Balance Sheet and Profit & Loss Statement
  • Assist in the preparation of the Management Quarterly Reports, Budget Report and Annual Financial Reports
  • Understand and process salary sacrifice arrangements, including novated lease, LAFHA etc.
  • Assist in external auditing.
  Business Compliance
  • Assist with State and territory Licencing and understanding requirements for State conditions to operate
  Support to Finance and Operations
  • Inputting payment details into MYOB and finance spreadsheet
  • Filing timesheets and payroll invoices
  • Monthly invoicing processes
  • Running reports from MYOB such as Aged Receivables and chasing up outstanding accounts
Other Tasks
  • Monitor and take appropriate action on shared admin account emails.
  • Willingness to travel within Canberra and interstate if required on occasion.
  • Other varied tasks as required.
 

The Successful Candidate

  • Previous accounting experience in small/medium business will be beneficial but not mandatory.
  • Understanding of Finance processes and accounting software such as MYOB and Astute Payroll (desirable)
  • Strong Excel Spreadsheet ability
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure and within tight deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written and the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff, and clients.
  • Able to maintain autonomy and discipline in an unsupervised environment.
  • Have a commitment to continuous improvement and quality policies and procedures
  • Have a commitment to teamwork and co-operative work practices
  • Be available to liaise with other staff online via instant messaging and emails.
  • Be responsible for maintaining phone, laptop, and other office equipment.
