About the Role
We are seeking a Finance Officer to join our Finance Team in Canberra. This role plays a key part in supporting day-to-day finance operations, payroll processing, compliance activities, and overall business efficiency.
Reporting to the Finance Team Lead, you will contribute to payroll, taxation, reporting, and process improvements while also supporting broader finance and back-office functions.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Payroll
- Process contractor timesheets (PAYG & ABN payroll)
- Assist with monthly staff payroll, including leave balances and superannuation
- Support invoicing and payment processing
- Assist with taxation obligations, including:
- Payroll Tax, GST, BAS, IAS, PAYG, FBT, TPAR
- Assist with month-end processes, reconciliations, and journal entries
- Support preparation of:
- Management reports
- Budget reports
- Annual financial statements
- Assist with external audits
- Manage salary packaging arrangements (e.g. novated leases, LAFHA)
- Assist with state and territory licensing requirements
- Ensure compliance with operational and regulatory obligations
- Input financial data into MYOB and internal systems
- Manage timesheets and payroll invoice filing
- Support monthly invoicing cycles
- Run reports (e.g. Aged Receivables) and follow up outstanding payments
- Monitor shared finance/admin inboxes
- Support ad hoc finance and operational tasks
About You
You are a detail-oriented and proactive finance professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment.
Skills & Experience
- Previous experience in a finance or payroll processing role
- Familiarity with MYOB and/or Astute Payroll(highly desirable)
- Strong Excel skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously
- Team-oriented with a collaborative mindset
- Committed to continuous improvement and best practice
- Professional, reliable, and organised
