About the Role
The Identity Architect is responsible for designing and governing enterprise identity and access management solutions that enable secure, scalable, and compliant access to systems and data across the organisation. The role provides strategic leadership across identity platforms, working closely with security, application, and business stakeholders to embed modern authentication, authorisation, and governance practices aligned to organisational objectives and risk requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Enterprise identity architecture and design authority – defining target‑state identity and PAM architectures, standards, and patterns that ensure consistency across platforms and delivery streams. Governance, assurance, and stakeholder influence – providing architectural oversight, design assurance, and clear guidance to projects, vendors, and internal teams, translating complex identity concepts into defensible decisions. Strategic roadmap and capability uplift – aligning identity and privileged access capabilities to CFC and organisational roadmaps, while mentoring teams and reducing long‑term reliance on external vendors.
Skills and Experience Required:
1. 5+ years’ experience designing and implementing enterprise-scale identity solutions across Active Directory Domain Services, AD FS, Entra ID (Azure AD) and identity management tooling, coupled with relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent industry experience. 2. Significant experience designing federated/hybrid identity at enterprise scale, including target-state architecture, migration strategies, and integration patterns. CSIRO operates technologies including: a. Active Directory Domain Services b. Active Directory Federation Services c. Active Directory (on-premise) and Azure AD synchronisation using Azure AD Connect d. Azure Active Directory (or equivalent) e. Certificate Management 3. Demonstrated experience using automation and Infrastructure-as-Code to administer and govern identity platforms (e.g., scripting, configuration management, policy-as-code), with a focus on repeatability and auditability. 4. Demonstrated ability to provide architectural guidance to engineers, clients and management, including facilitating design reviews, documenting decisions, and mentoring team members. 5. Excellent communication skills, including the ability to work collaboratively across multi-disciplinary, geographically dispersed teams and translate between business, security and technical stakeholders.
Location and Contract Term: This role is Hybrid, Australia wide

with 1 x 12- month contract extension options
pending budget and delegate approval.
Security Requirements: Applicants must be Australian Citizens and hold a NV1 security clearance.
