This role supports a large, highly secure Australian Government ICT environment responsible for delivering and sustaining mission‑critical technology capability. The program operates within a controlled, compliance‑driven setting, supporting complex enterprise infrastructure platforms aligned to Defence standards and national security outcomes.
About the Role
An experienced Infrastructure Engineer is required to contribute to the build, configuration, and operation of a secure, stand‑alone Hyper Converged Infrastructure (HCI) environment. Working under the direction of a Solutions Architect and Infrastructure Lead, you will play a key hands‑on role across VMware, Dell, and Red Hat OpenShift technologies.
This role is ideal for engineers who thrive in structured environments, enjoy deep technical delivery, and are comfortable working onsite within secure government facilities.
Role Responsibilities
- Assist in the design, build, and configuration of Hyper Converged Infrastructure components using VMware and Dell technologies
- Support the operation, maintenance, and enhancement of a secure stand‑alone network
- Perform patching, upgrades, and lifecycle management across VMware SDDC components including:
- vCenter, NSX‑T, vSAN
- Aria Operations, Aria Log Insight, Aria Network Insight
- Aria Suite Lifecycle Manager
- Manage and maintain Dell enterprise hardware, including configuration and monitoring via iDRAC
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Red Hat OpenShift, supporting container orchestration and platform services
- Support the deployment and configuration of Aria Identity Manager (Workspace ONE Access)
- Conduct complex troubleshooting and root cause analysis across compute, storage, and network layers
- Develop, maintain, and follow detailed Build Instructions and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Support infrastructure builds using existing documentation and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
- Ensure all activities comply with Defence security, operational, and documentation standards
- Strong hands‑on experience with VMware SDDC and Hyper Converged Infrastructure
- Experience with VMware Cloud Foundation and SDDC Manager lifecycle activities
- Proven capability managing Dell enterprise infrastructure and iDRAC
- Strong working knowledge of Red Hat OpenShift
- Experience performing infrastructure patching, upgrades, and maintenance in enterprise environments
- Demonstrated ability to produce and maintain technical documentation and SOPs
- Advanced troubleshooting skills across virtualised infrastructure platforms
- Experience working in secure or Defence‑aligned ICT environments
- Linux and Windows system administration experience
- Knowledge of government and Defence security frameworks (ISM, ASD Essential Eight, STIGs)
- Experience with automation tools such as Ansible, PowerCLI, or Terraform
- Previous experience in air‑gapped or classified environments
- Relevant industry certifications (VMware, Red Hat, Dell, Security)
- Long‑term contract opportunity within a stable and secure government program
- Work on enterprise‑scale infrastructure supporting critical national capability
