The dashboard will present integrated administrative data from ABS PLIDA and survey data from the Outcomes Survey. It aims to support the VET Workforce Strategy project by visualising indicators of the VET workforce including size and composition. The designer will play a key role in shaping how this data is presented to stakeholders, ensuring clarity, usability, and impact.
The Interaction Designer will lead the design and development of interactive dashboards that communicate complex data on the VET workforce in a clear, engaging, and accessible way. Working within a multidisciplinary team, the designer will apply user-centred design principles to create intuitive interfaces that support the VET Workforce Blueprint – Data Strategy project and other strategic initiatives. This role focuses on interface design, user experience, and front-end prototyping, rather than data engineering or analysis.
The Interaction Designer will be working in a high-performing digital multidisciplinary team to design and deliver a data visualisation tool. The ITS Dashboard Designer will work closely with other Designers in the team and take guidance or instructions as needed.
Key duties and responsibilities
Key responsibilities of the Interaction Designer role include:
• Design user interfaces and interactions which meet stakeholder and audience needs.
• Ensure UI Kit is up-to-date and consistently applied across all products.
• Liaise with the VET Workforce Analysis Team around:
• Developing dashboard prototype showing key VET workforce indicators
• User testing and feedback– conduct usability testing and iterate based on stakeholder feedback.
• Technical documentation and Standard operating procedures– data flow diagrams, system and technical notes, and documented processes for dashboard updates and maintenance.
• Knowledge transfer plan and future developments– plan handover sessions with the JSA Digital and VET Workforce Analysis Teams and/or present plans for future updates to the dashboard based on updated developments and funding.
Technical skills
Capabilities & Technical Skills: • Strong eye for detail and ability to follow brief and directions for implementing new designs. • Ability to learn quickly, work to short deadlines and manage competing priorities of varying complexity and urgency. • Experience working with complex datasets. • Experience working in/with Government an advantage, along with understanding of accessibility standards. • Experience with tools like Figma would be an advantage.
Essential criteria
1.Experience in applying data insights to inform design decisions and improve user engagement and functionality.
2.Experience in working within government or regulated environments, with an understanding of accessibility standards and inclusive design principles.
3.Experience in using design tools such as Figma to create wireframes, prototypes, and design concepts that support collaborative development.
Contract:
6 Month Contract
Security Required:
Must be able to obtain Baseline security Clearance
Location-
QLD, WA, ACT, VIC, NSW, NT, SA, TAS - Flexible Working Arrangements (including remote working arrangements): Requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis against the business requirements of the department and the needs of the immediate work area
