The Role:
The Systems Analyst will support the Departments major strategic initiatives by delivering high‑quality system analysis and design across complex, integrated environments. Working with business and technical stakeholders, the role translates requirements into clear system designs, reviews code and configuration to support issue resolution, and contributes to solution discovery, impact assessments, and backlog readiness.
The position requires strong experience with API‑based integrations (including OAS, JSON/XML, validation rules, and error handling) and the ability to assess cloud solution impacts within AWS environments. The Analyst will produce key design artefacts such as functional specifications, process flows, data mapping, and interface definitions, working closely with developers, testers, DevOps, and architects throughout delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
• Brings solid experience as a Systems Analyst, contributing to system analysis and design activities across complex, integration.
• Works with business and technical stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into clear, workable system designs.
• Able to read and understand source code, configuration, or logic representations to support analysis, design clarification, and issue resolution.
• Supports solution discovery activities, including current state analysis, impact assessment, and assisting with option evaluation.
• Supports backlog readiness, assisting in breaking down requirements and Acceptance Criteria into clear, testable outcomes and contributing to the Definition of Ready.
• Has practical experience analysing and documenting API based integrations, including OpenAPI Specifications (OAS), request/response structures (JSON/XML), validation rules, error handling, and interface definitions.
• Supports AWS and cloud based solution initiatives by analysing design impacts to performance, security, scalability, and resilience.
• Produces and maintains system design artefacts (functional specifications, process/data flows, interface details, and acceptance criteria) to support development and testing.
• Works collaboratively with developers, testers, DevOps, and architects to clarify requirements and resolve design questions during delivery.
• Provides guidance and assistance to other analysts and team members, helping improve consistency and quality of analysis and design outputs.
• Identifies risks, dependencies, and assumptions within assigned work and escalates appropriately.
Location and Contract Term: This role is based in the Canberra, Adelaide, Docklands or Brisbane. 12-month contract with 2 x 12-month extension options pending budget and delegate approval.
Security Requirements: Applicants must be Australian Citizens and hold a baseline security clearance
