About the role:



As a Kubernetes engineer you are a specialized Engineer responsible for the design, deployment, and maintenance of container orchestration platforms. Your core focus includes designing cluster architecture, deploying workloads, and hardening security. You ensure that cloud platforms are operational and that applications remain available.

 

Mandatory Requirement:

Citizenship Requirement: Must be an Australian citizen to be eligible for this role.

Government Clearance: Minimum baseline or NV-1 clearance government clearance.

 

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Cluster architecture and deployment.
  • Workload orchestration and management.
  • Security implementation and hardening.
  • Vulnerability management and runtime security.
  • Access control and identity management.
  • Infrastructure as Code and automation.
  • Monitoring, logging, and observability.
  • Compliance and audit logging.
  • Collaboration with Development Teams: Work closely with software developers and QA teams to embed CI/CD practices into the development lifecycle and resolve merge conflicts.
  • Monitoring and Troubleshooting: Continuously monitor pipelines, identify failures, and implement solutions to maintain high availability and performance.
  • Process Improvement: Evaluate and adopt new tools and methodologies to enhance pipeline efficiency, reliability, and security.
  • Version Control Management: Oversee source code repositories, manage release branches, and ensure smooth integration of updates.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain documentation of CI/CD processes, best practices, and provide updates to project managers and stakeholders.
The successful candidate:

  • Kubernetes architecture: You need a deep understanding of components like the API server and how API resources function.
  • Container technologies: Proficiency with Docker, containerd, or CRI-O is mandatory for managing the container lifecycle.
  • Linux and networking: Strong system administration skills and knowledge of networking protocols are the foundation of cluster management.
  • Cloud platforms: Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP and their managed Kubernetes services (Amazon EKS, Google GKE, or Azure AKS), including workload identity (IRSA/Workload Identity) and cluster networking (VPC CNI, Calico, or Cilium).
  • Programming: Skills in Go, Python, or Bash are necessary for writing automation scripts.
  • Infrastructure as Code: You must know tools like Terraform or Ansible to define infrastructure programmatically.
  • CI/CD: Understanding pipelines and DevOps practices helps you integrate deployment workflows.
  • Observability: Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, or the ELK stack is required for monitoring.

Required Skills:



  • 5-10+ years of hands-on experience delivering Kubernetes / Container services for cloud environments (AWS & Azure).
  • Proven experience of developing Cluster baselines, hardening guides, monitoring configs
  • Strong understanding of AWS & Azure IaaS services.
  • Understanding of ITIL processes (incident, change, problem, configuration management)

This contract is available for an initial 12-month term with an extensions – June 2026 start
