About the Role
The Lead Cyber Security Specialist will play a pivotal role in assessing and improving the cyber resilience of Australia’s Critical Infrastructure. Operating at an EL1‑equivalent level, you will conduct independent, end‑to‑end cyber security assessments across complex Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT) environments.
The role involves evaluating the effectiveness of management, procedural, and technical security controls, identifying gaps, and providing clear, actionable advice to stakeholders. You will work closely with a wide variety of critical infrastructure entities, applying expert cyber security knowledge across diverse technical and operational contexts.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting cyber security assessments of complex IT and OT systems
- Assessing the effectiveness of security controls and control enhancements
- Producing high‑quality, actionable cyber security advice to uplift cyber resilience
- Verifying cyber security posture through technical tooling, documentation review, and stakeholder workshops
- Contributing to risk governance activities, including identifying security risks and mitigation strategies
The Successful Candidate
The successful candidate will be an experienced cyber security professional with a strong technical foundation and the ability to apply their expertise across a broad range of environments.
You will demonstrate:
- 3–5+ years’ experience in a cyber security role
- Strong knowledge of contemporary cyber security assessment, monitoring, detection, and remediation practices
- Broad understanding of operational technology environments and the unique cyber risks within critical infrastructure
- Sound knowledge of cyber threats, vulnerabilities, and security principles across legacy and modern systems
- Proven ability to engage and communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels
- Experience preparing briefings, technical findings, and written assessment products
Candidates must also be willing to undergo an Organisational Suitability Assessment (OSA) prior to engagement.

Location: The role is based in Canberra ACT.
Contract terms: 12 months from commencement date, plus potential extensions
SFIA level required: The Specified Person will be expected to demonstrate attributes of SFIA Level of Responsibility 4.
Security Requirements: Candidate must hold an active Negative Vetting 2 (NV2) security clearance.
