About the role
We are seeking an experienced Lead Network Security Engineer to support the operation, maintenance and uplift of critical network infrastructure within a highly secure environment based in Canberra.
This is a hands‑on technical leadership role where you will guide network security practices while actively contributing to the design, assessment and protection of complex network environments across both physical and virtual platforms.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the planning, implementation and operation of secure network services and systems
- Operating, maintaining and uplifting critical network infrastructure
- Assessing complex information systems using contemporary security frameworks and toolsets
- Reviewing network architectures and device configurations and providing improvement recommendations
- Applying defence‑in‑depth principles to network design and security configuration
- Providing specialist advice on hardening systems against advanced and emerging threats
- Collaborating closely with technical teams and mentoring less experienced engineers
The successful candidate
You will be a highly capable network security professional with strong technical depth and the confidence to lead in complex, high‑assurance environments.
You will demonstrate:
- 5+ years’ experience in a cyber security or network security role
- Proven experience implementing, maintaining and improving network security practices
- Strong hands‑on experience with network protection technologies (firewalls, routers, servers)
- Demonstrated ability to assess network security architectures and make practical recommendations
- Experience securing network communications within complex environments
- Strong knowledge of networking concepts, protocols and security methodologies
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders

Location: The role is based in Canberra ACT.
Contract terms: 12 months from commencement date, plus potential extensions
Security Requirements: Must be an Australian Citizens with a minimum Negative Vetting 1 (NV1) Security Clearance to be considered. An OSA(Organisational Suitability Assessment) will be required for this position.
