The Opportunity We're looking for a senior Lead Systems Engineer to own the design, security, and operational performance of critical Linux platforms in a highly secure environment.
This is a hands-on leadership role focused on:
- Linux platform architecture
- Security hardening & compliance
- Infrastructure lifecycle management
- Reliability & operational excellence
What You'll Be Doing
Architecture & Platform Ownership
- Lead the design and evolution of Linux-based infrastructure
- Define platform standards, operating system baselines, and lifecycle strategies
- Make key architectural decisions across secure on-premises environments
- Drive continuous improvement and platform modernisation
- Lead Linux hardening initiatives aligned to the Essential Eight
- Manage patching, privileged access controls, backups, and secure configurations
- Ensure infrastructure remains compliant, auditable, and resilient
- Champion security best practices across the platform
- Oversee system build, release, maintenance, and decommissioning activities
- Lead troubleshooting for complex infrastructure incidents
- Establish standards for change control, documentation, and operational readiness
- Improve platform performance, stability, and availability
- Mentor engineers and promote engineering excellence
- Work closely with Kubernetes and platform engineering teams
- Provide expert technical guidance to stakeholders and leadership
- Support secure identity and access solutions across Linux environments
Essential
- Extensive experience managing and architecting Linux platforms
- Strong background in infrastructure security and system hardening
- Experience working in secure, regulated, or mission-critical environments
- Expertise in platform lifecycle management and operational support
- Scripting and automation skills (Bash and/or Python)
- Ability to lead technical direction and influence engineering outcomes
Desirable
- Windows Server and Active Directory exposure
- Identity and access management experience
- Kubernetes or platform engineering experience
- Defence or Government sector experience
- Own and shape critical Linux infrastructure
- Work within a highly secure, mission-focused environment
- Influence architecture, security, and platform strategy
