An opportunity is available for an experienced Oracle & SQL Server Database Administrator to provide high-level operational support across complex on‑premises and cloud-based enterprise database environments. This role sits within a specialised Database Services function supporting critical production and non‑production systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, patch, upgrade, manage and monitor Oracle, SQL Server and PostgreSQL databases
- Administer Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Exadata services including RAC, Data Guard and TDE
- Support AWS RDS, including PostgreSQL environments
- Perform database extracts, refreshes, reorgs, backups and restores
- Investigate and resolve complex database incidents, including performance and security issues
- Develop and maintain automation and scripting across Linux and Windows (PL/SQL, T‑SQL, shell, PowerShell)
- Provide third-level support and act as an escalation point for database-related issues
- Raise and manage service requests with Oracle and Microsoft support
- Maintain thorough operational and technical documentation
- Contribute to enterprise monitoring, backup, high availability and disaster recovery solutions
- Support release, change and environment management activities
- Provide technical advice, mentoring and knowledge transfer across database and delivery teams
- Oracle: Cloud Control (Tuning, Diagnostics & Lifecycle Management Packs), TOAD, SQL Developer
- SQL Server: SSMS, SSRS, SSIS, SSAS
- Cloud Platforms: Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, AWS
- Databases: Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL
- Strong hands-on experience administering Oracle and SQL Server in enterprise environments
- Proven experience supporting cloud and hybrid database platforms
- Solid understanding of HA, DR, backup and recovery architectures
- Experience working in high-availability, 24×7 operational environments
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to manage complex technical issues
- Strong documentation, communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Experience across both public and private sector environments
- Previous exposure to performance tuning and database security in regulated environments
- Participation in a 24×7 on-call roster (excluding business hours unless agreed)
- Weekly on-call allowance applies, with standard hourly rates for callouts
- No penalty, weekend or after-hours rates apply
