Principal Java Developer

Seeking a Principal Java Developer with experience in OpenShift/Kubernetes, networking & storage infrastructure .

Development professionals will design, create, test and document software systems and applications in accordance with agreed development and security standards and processes. Senior Development Experts oversee large and complex software development projects, providing technical leadership to their team/s. They drive software planning, development and construction activities and are accountable for the resolution of complex issues within the development and production environments.  Senior Development experts oversee the quality and functionality of software, ensuring adherence to relevant standards, guidelines, and methods for system development.

Senior Development Experts:

  • make ethical, evidence-based decisions using sound judgement
  • develop and manage strategic relationships with stakeholders.
  • Provide technical leadership for our Java applications to ensure they are secure, customer focused and well maintained.
  • Promote best practice development for Java for the agency 
Key duties and responsibilities
  • oversee the development of software and technical design
  • implement strategy to ensure high quality code and long-term maintenance of a product's code base
  • provide expert technical advice on software development and maintenance 
  • oversee the release and ensure go-live production support and maintenance for the team’s developments
  • drive analysis, design, development, prototyping, unit testing and maintenance activities 
  • review and approve proposed solutions and undertake high-level impact analysis of technical requirements, to support project evaluation 
  • ensure compliance with endorsed software development methodologies 
  • assist with the resolution of highly complex management and expert issues
  • champion a positive risk management culture
  • negotiate, engage, and manage stakeholder relationships and partner with other agencies and service providers to build service delivery capability
  • manage business and strategic workforce planning, and drive the development of local strategies to improve key performance measures
  • prepare briefs and corporate documentation, communicate findings and recommendations to influence senior executive decision making
  • manage business objectives, establish, and implement strategic priorities to achieve outcomes
  • oversee the development and delivery of projects within the assigned area of responsibility
  • oversee team contribution to cost analysis activities
  • exercise delegation in accordance with legislation and guidelines.
  • Some roles may require an NV1 Security Clearance.
Technical skills

• Java, JEE, JSP, JSF, JavaScript, Angular, CSS, JQuery, JAVA Spring framework, JPA & JDBC, SQL, SOAP, DB2, RESTful Services, CI/CD, Bamboo, ALM, SVN, GitLab • Full stack developer • RESTful web services & API-C (API Connect), Db2 & MQ • Knowledge of code versioning tools, particularly Git • OpenShift/Kubernetes, networking & storage infrastructure • Experience building & maintaining Linux containers (System Administration of the Linux operating system) • Customer centric & secure applications

Security Required: Ability to obtain a Baseline   Security Clearance required- Baseline Clearance preferred

Contract - 12 months Contract with 2 x 12 month extension

Location  - QLD, ACT, VIC, SA , NSW and Hybrid - 3 days a week
