About the Role

The Project Officer supports the delivery of key initiatives that contribute to the establishment and ongoing operations of the Aboriginal Languages Trust. Working as part of a small, collaborative team, the role provides project coordination, stakeholder liaison and administrative support to ensure programs and activities are delivered effectively and respectfully.

The position works closely with Aboriginal language communities, the Aboriginal Languages Trust Board, Aboriginal Affairs NSW (AANSW), and a range of government and community stakeholders. A core focus of the role is supporting community-led outcomes through effective engagement, consultation, and grants program coordination, while ensuring activities align with government processes, reporting requirements and the objectives of the Trust.

This role requires a high level of organisational capability, strong communication skills, cultural awareness, and the ability to work flexibly across multiple projects and priorities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the planning, coordination and delivery of projects that progress the objectives and functions.

  • Provide day-to-day project support, including scheduling, documentation, tracking milestones, and supporting timely delivery of project outcomes.

  • Assist in the coordination and administration of grants programs, including application processes, assessments, funding agreements, and monitoring and reporting requirements.

  • Build and maintain effective relationships with Aboriginal language communities, Aboriginal organisations, and key stakeholders across New South Wales.

  • Support meaningful consultation and engagement activities with Aboriginal communities, ensuring culturally informed and respectful practices are embedded in project delivery.

  • Liaise with the Aboriginal Languages Trust Board, Aboriginal Affairs NSW, and internal and external stakeholders to support governance, briefing, and decision-making processes.

  • Contribute to the preparation of reports, briefs, correspondence, and presentations for internal governance, the Trust Board, and external stakeholders.

  • Assist with monitoring, evaluation and reporting on project activities and outcomes in line with funding, policy and accountability requirements.

  • Maintain accurate records and project documentation in line with NSW Government policies and record‑keeping standards.

  • Support continuous improvement by identifying risks, issues and opportunities, and contributing to solutions that strengthen project delivery and community outcomes.

 

Location and Contract Term:

  • Mascot, NSW (No Remote Workers)
  • 6-month initial contract with Likely extension.
  • Hybrid working model.
 

Security Requirements: Full working rights & the ability to obtain an Australian police check.
