The Telecommunications and Data Centre Support Section within the Infrastructure and Operational Support Branch of Information Management and Technology Division has a requirement for an ICT labour hire resource to fill the role of Radio Frequency Engineer. The RF Engineer will work with other officers, or independently, to support, design and implement RF systems.
Key duties and responsibilities
- Manage and assist with radio frequency (RF) solutions. The role will also assist with fault resolution, requirement gathering, capability and solution design, installation and integration of RF solutions.
- Responsibility for scoping, design, set up, tuning/calibration and functional checks of RF devices and software, following maintenance schedules and using appropriate tools and test equipment. Integrating hardware/firmware modifications, implement communication systems and elements in accordance with standards. The role also requires support of automatic fault/performance indications and fault resolution and/or escalates according to given procedures.
- Ability to investigate and resolve system-wide fault conditions using a wide range of diagnostic tools and techniques. Reconfigure equipment to circumvent temporary outages. Specifies, selects and integrates RF devices in a system. Defines internal communication protocols for transmission over the available frequencies. Reconfigures devices and software to optimise performance.

- Delivery and implementation - Systems development - Radio Frequency engineering (REFN) - Level 4/5
Degree in Engineering / Other qualifications and certifications relevant to the role.
About the team
This role resides in the Telecommunications and Data Centre Support Section (TCS). The TCS section resides within the Information Management Division under the Infrastructure and Operational Support Branch. TCS comprises of a combination of APS and contract technical resources working, predominantly in wide area networks, data centres, and Voice and Video technologies. The team supports both projects & operations.
Essential criteria
- Extensive theoretical and practical knowledge of RF, RF systems design, and the operation of RF equipment.
- Experience and knowledge in implementing RF (UHF, VHF, HF) and microwave systems, from design, integration, and support.
- Verbal communication skills and the ability to lead and work effectively in small to medium sized teams, including cross-functional and geographically dispersed teams.
- Preparing technical and project documentation including design reports, test procedures, and performance analyses.
- A minimum NV1 security clearance is required, consideration will be given to the ability and willingness to upgrade beyond an NV1.
- Experience and knowledge of satellite communications.
- Ability to travel.
- NV2 security clearance and/or ability and willingness to upgrade.
Contract - 12 months Contract with 2 x 12 month extension
