The end client is a major public sector organisation undertaking a strategic ERP transformation program, including a significant SAP upgrade from legacy platforms to SAP S/4HANA. This role supports the modernisation of HR and Payroll capabilities that underpin workforce operations at scale.
About the Role
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Functional Consultant – SAP HR / Payroll to play a critical role in a major SAP upgrade program. You will work closely with internal platform teams, business process owners, and delivery partners to ensure HR and Payroll services remain compliant, efficient, and fit for purpose throughout the transition.
The role supports the conversion from SAP ECC6 HR & Payroll to SAP S/4HANA (H4S4), contributing to solution design, configuration, and delivery while enabling long‑term digital uplift and improved workforce experience.
This is a long‑term contract role, supporting a multi‑year ERP transformation program.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a functional point of contact with delivery partners, ensuring SAP HR/Payroll solutions align with business requirements and strategic direction.
- Collaborate closely with internal ERP platform teams, HR process owners, and key stakeholders to ensure end‑to‑end process alignment.
- Contribute to solution design activities, review deliverables, and support evaluation of options, risks, issues, and mitigations.
- Support and contribute to configuration of the SAP HR / Payroll solution to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing.
- Gather, validate, and support requirements for the H4S4 conversion, covering core HR processes such as:
- Employee data management
- Organisational management
- Time and attendance
- Provide functional and technical expertise across SAP HR modules, including troubleshooting and issue resolution.
- Support effective integration between SAP HR/Payroll and other enterprise systems.
- Ensure appropriate documentation is produced and maintained for configurations, processes, procedures, and workflows.
- Stay current with SAP HR/Payroll enhancements and regulatory changes, recommending improvements to optimise compliance and performance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
- Strong experience implementing and configuring SAP HR / Payroll and ESS modules.
- Deep knowledge of SAP HR processes, data structures, and integration points.
- Proven experience with ECC HR / Payroll, including:
- HR‑PY
- HR‑PA
- HR‑OM
- ESS
- Experience with H4S4 and conversion from ECC HR/Payroll to SAP S/4HANA.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving capability with experience resolving complex system issues.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage effectively across technical teams, business users, and senior stakeholders.
- SAP HR certification is advantageous.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, program‑based environment.
- Clear, confident communication across technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and expectation management.
- Excellent time management and organisational skills.
- Ability to influence, negotiate, and resolve issues constructively.
- Resilience and decisiveness in high‑pressure or ambiguous situations.
- Strong critical‑thinking and problem‑solving mindset.
- Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or New Zealand Citizen.
- Willingness to undergo:
