The client is a major public‑sector organisation undertaking a comprehensive ERP transformation program, including an upgrade from SAP ECC6 to SAP S/4HANA. This program focuses on modernising the technical foundation of the ERP landscape, retiring legacy systems, and improving efficiency, security, and business outcomes across critical processes.
About the Role
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced SAP Technical Project Lead to drive the day‑to‑day planning, coordination, and delivery of SAP technical workstreams within a major SAP Upgrade Program.
This is a hands‑on delivery leadership role, responsible for managing SAP technical activities end‑to‑end — from detailed planning and build oversight through testing, cutover, and transition to support. You will work under the direction of a senior SAP Project Manager while coordinating closely with functional consultants, developers, Basis, integration teams, internal platform teams, and the implementation vendor.
The role requires deep understanding of SAP architecture, WRICEF objects, integrations, and testing cycles to translate business requirements into technically sound and deliverable SAP solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day‑to‑day delivery of SAP technical workstreams, ensuring alignment to agreed scope, schedule, budget, and quality objectives.
- Provide hands‑on leadership across SAP technical delivery, including:
- Detailed work planning
- Coordination of SAP functional and technical resources
- Oversight of configuration, build, testing, and deployment activities
- Work closely with business stakeholders and process owners to clarify requirements and translate them into practical SAP solutions.
- Collaborate with SAP functional consultants, developers, Basis, integration teams, and internal ERP platform teams to ensure solutions are technically sound and progressing as planned.
- Actively manage SAP‑specific risks, issues, dependencies, and constraints, escalating where required.
- Review and contribute to SAP solution designs, ensuring alignment with approved architecture, standards, and implementation approaches.
- Coordinate and monitor vendor delivery activities, including milestone tracking, quality assurance, issue resolution, and contractual reporting.
- Ensure SAP deliverables meet agreed technical and functional standards and are ready for testing, acceptance, and operational handover.
- Support SAP testing cycles, including:
- System Integration Testing (SIT)
- User Acceptance Testing (UAT)
- Defect triage and remediation
- Contribute to cutover, deployment, and transition‑to‑support planning to ensure a smooth go‑live and stabilisation period.
- Maintain required SAP project documentation, including plans, risks and issues, status reports, and delivery artefacts.
- Provide regular, accurate reporting to senior project leadership and support timely decision‑making.
- Demonstrated experience delivering SAP technical workstreams within large‑scale enterprise or government environments.
- Strong hands‑on understanding of SAP technical landscapes, including:
- WRICEF objects
- ATC reports
- SAP integrations
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities, meet delivery milestones, and operate with minimal supervision.
- Experience coordinating SAP vendors and multi‑disciplinary delivery teams.
- Strong written, verbal, and stakeholder communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience in:
- Project planning and scheduling
- Resource and financial tracking
- Status reporting and governance
- SAP technical and/or functional certifications applied within project delivery roles.
- Proficiency with MS Project and the Microsoft Office suite.
- Clear and effective communicator across technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship‑building capability.
- Collaborative team player with the ability to influence delivery outcomes.
- Well‑organised with strong time‑management skills.
- Resilient and composed in high‑pressure delivery environments.
- Structured problem‑solver with a practical, outcomes‑focused mindset.
- Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or New Zealand Citizen.
- Willingness to undergo:
- National Police Check
- Baseline Security Clearance
- Reference checks
- Long‑term contract through June 2027 with extensions on a major SAP S/4HANA transformation.
