About the role:
Our Client is seeking an experienced Scrum Master (Level 3).
The Scrum Master will lead one or more Agile delivery teams as a servant leader, fostering a collaborative, safe, and high‑performing environment while guiding teams and stakeholders in Agile/Scrum practices. This role is responsible for facilitating key Agile ceremonies, removing impediments, supporting continuous improvement, managing project risks and costs, and partnering with Service Owners, architects, and business stakeholders to ensure effective delivery aligned with our clients’ objectives.
To be considered for this role – banking experience is mandatory.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the scrum team, or multiple scrum teams as a servant leader.
- Craft a servant leadership style to be an example for all employees and aspiring leaders.
- Guiding the team and organisation on how to use Agile/Scrum practices and values to delight customers.
- Guiding the team on how to get the most out of self-organisation.
- Develop with the team a sustainable pace of continuous improvement.
- Help the team articulate, radiate and actively remove impediments.
- Building a trusting and safe environment where problems can be raised without fear of blame, retribution, or being judged, with an emphasis on problem-solving.
- Create a positive team environment that empowers the team through facilitation of discussion, decision making, and conflict resolution.
- Protects the team from both internal and external factors that may impact the team's performance.
- Partner with the Service Owner to ensure a strong vision, backlog development and cadence.
- Facilitate Agile ceremonies (incl. sprint planning, sprint reviews and retrospectives), ensuring that activities are time-boxed and artefacts are visible to the team (through visualisation techniques and/or tools), at a team or program level.
- Work with the architects and the business to deliver cost estimates (according to the group business and technology estimation process) for submissions for funding approval, and subsequently manage and report project delivery against agreed costs, to maximise operational efficiency, optimise the cost/benefits of resource mix, forecast and manage the cost impacts of scope change and monitoring, and manage partner/vendor costs related to technology delivery to improve cost predictability and ensure the project delivers within agreed cost.
- Direct the identification, monitoring, reporting and escalation of risks and issues and/or problems associated with services and/or delivery in the project, including challenging and influencing the Program Director, business clients and stakeholders as required to enable the achievement of project deliverables and benefits. Raise risks at WBC group level when required.
- Act as a day-to-day contact point with partners and/or vendors required to deliver solutions for the project and monitor and report on progress and performance against agreed deliverables and quality and performance standards to ensure quality of outcomes, cost effectiveness, appropriate risk management and seamless integration with other project delivery streams.
- Identify, coordinate and integrate project management activities and processes.
- Manage the timely completion of the project - through defining and sequencing activities, effective estimation of resourcing & durations; development and controlling schedule
- Execution of the processes of conducting risk management planning, identification, analysis, response planning, monitoring and control of risks in a project.
- Engender cultural change
- Regularly communicate to senior stakeholders regarding the status of specific project deliverables
- Define and enforce non-functional quality standards
- Manage forecasts and actual spend (via WASP and Clarity/finance)
- Identify OPEX requirements and manage this expectation with stakeholders
Candidates should be able to demonstrate the following skills:
- Understand other processes and methodologies other than Agile and can speak intelligently about them and leverage other techniques to provide value to a team/enterprise.
- Understand fundamentals of software development processes and procedures.
- Understand the value of commitments to delivery made by a development team.
- Understand incremental delivery and the value of metrics.
- Understand backlog tracking, burndown metrics, velocity, and task definition.
- Familiarity with common Agile practices and enhanced development practices.
- Teaching, mentoring, exercising and improving ways of working across the organisation
- Coaching teams to raise impediments and work to remove impediments
- Coaching teams and organisation on how to build a trusting and safe environment
- Optimise continuous and sustainable throughput of value
- Identify and remove barriers that prohibit or inhibit reliable quality delivery within teams (internal and external)
- Facilitate Service Owner Sync and Scrum of Scrums Certified Scrum Master or Professional Scrum Master Level 1 desirable
- 2+ years practical experience on a Scrum and/or Agile team
- 1+ years practical experience as a Scrum Master for 1+ teams
- Familiarity with market leading Agile tools, e.g. JIRA, Rally, Version One, desirable
This contract is available for an initial 6-month term with likely extension on a long-term project.
Located in Sydney, this role offers a hybrid working arrangement.
