About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Security Systems Engineer to join a major Cyber Security Remediation Program. In this role, you will act as a subject matter expert, providing advice, designing, implementing, and remediating security controls across a diverse range of technologies and systems. You will work with multiple government entities to uplift security measures from Official to Top Secret classifications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver expert advice and implement security controls across complex environments.
- Develop technical documentation, including SOPs, design documents, and configuration records.
- Participate in workshops focused on security engineering design and remediation.
- Prototype and test security configurations to inform guidance and best practices.
- Implement security controls aligned with the Information Security Manual (ISM), Essential Eight, and other industry standards.
To excel in this role, you will have:
- Essential:
- Minimum 7 years’ experience as a Systems Engineer, with expertise in areas such as Microsoft Active Directory, networking, cross-domain solutions, SIEM tools (Sentinel/Splunk), Linux/Unix environments, cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP), and complex Windows enterprise environments.
- Strong ability to work independently and collaboratively in hybrid or remote teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical documentation and executive briefings.
- Leadership capability to guide others and align tasks with strategic objectives.
- Desirable:
- Bachelor’s degree in IT or equivalent certifications.
- Experience applying and implementing security controls.
Australian citizenship with a current NV1 or NV2 security clearance is mandatory. Candidates with an Organisational Suitability Assessment (OSA) are highly preferred and must be willing to undergo this assessment prior to engagement.

Location: The role is based in Canberra, ACT
Contract terms: 12 months from commencement date, plus potential extensions
SFIA level required: The Specified Person will be expected to demonstrate attributes of SFIA Level of Responsibility 5.
Security Requirements: Minimum Negative Vetting 1 (NV1) clearance is required for this position. An OSA(Organisational Suitability Assessment) will be required for this position.
