About our client:
Our client is a leading professional services and consulting organisation, delivering innovative solutions across strategy, technology, systems integration, and operations. They partner with high-profile clients across Government, Financial Services, Utilities, and other complex enterprise environments.

Due to continued project growth, they are seeking an experienced Senior Automation Engineer to design, build, and uplift enterprise-grade automation solutions for one of their Big 4 banking clients.


About the Role
As a Senior Automation Engineer, you will play a key role in driving automation engineering initiatives, improving operational consistency, and reducing manual effort across complex infrastructure and network environments. You will also provide technical leadership and contribute to the ongoing maturity of automation platforms and practices.

 

Key Responsibilities

Automation Engineering & Delivery
  • Design and build automation solutions using Python and Ansible, focused on efficiency and repeatability.
  • Develop and maintain Ansible playbooks and Python scripts for managing, validating, and auditing infrastructure and network devices.
  • Create reusable automation assets (roles, modules, libraries) with strong emphasis on testing, documentation, and maintainability.
Platform Integration (AWX / CI/CD / Tooling)
  • Integrate automation solutions into CI/CD pipelines and platform tooling including job templates, surveys, secrets handling, and artefact management.
  • Support and uplift automation platforms that orchestrate Ansible jobs, ensuring clear visibility of job execution and outcomes.
  • Improve developer and operator experience by delivering self-service automation products, standardised runbooks, and onboarding documentation.
Reliability, Safety & Governance
  • Ensure automation changes are validated, monitored, and deployed safely with appropriate rollback strategies.
  • Build automation that supports on-demand audits, capturing execution context (who ran what, when, and where).
  • Apply secure coding practices, including credential management, least-privilege access, and appropriate logging hygiene, aligned to enterprise standards.
Collaboration & Technical Leadership
  • Work closely with engineering, operations, architecture, and security teams to translate business requirements into scalable automation solutions.
  • Mentor and uplift engineers in Python, Ansible, and automation design best practices.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders, providing updates on progress, risks, and delivery outcomes.
 

Skills & Experience

Technical Skills
  • Strong hands-on experience with Python scripting/coding and Ansible.
  • DevOps & Tooling: Bitbucket, Jenkins, GitHub, JIRA, Terraform, Vault.
  • Network Security experience across enterprise environments, including:
    • Juniper SRX
    • Fortinet FortiGate
    • VMware (Broadcom) NSX
  • Solid data handling capabilities including data collection, schema binding, manipulation, and analysis.
General Skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to engage stakeholders and translate business needs into technical solutions.
  • Self-motivated, collaborative, and comfortable working under pressure with multiple delivery teams.
  • Strong process mindset with experience improving standards, compliance, and operational practices.
