Due to continued growth and investment in secure cloud capabilities, our client is seeking experienced Senior Cloud Systems Engineers to join a high-performing team responsible for designing, implementing and maintaining secure cloud environments supporting critical operational outcomes.
About the Role
As a Senior Cloud Systems Engineer, you will play a key role in the design, deployment and optimisation of secure cloud infrastructure solutions. You will work closely with architects, developers, product owners and security specialists to deliver robust, scalable and resilient cloud services within highly secure environments.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Designing and architecting cloud solutions that meet complex business and technical requirements.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to improve cloud performance, security, reliability and cost efficiency.
- Implementing and managing cloud security controls in alignment with government security frameworks and organisational policies.
- Supporting the deployment and integration of Cloud Native Application Protection Platform (CNAPP) and Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) technologies.
- Developing proof-of-concept environments and evaluating emerging technologies for suitability within secure cloud ecosystems.
- Partnering with cloud service providers to design innovative and practical technical solutions.
- Contributing to infrastructure automation, system enhancements, cloud resilience, backup and disaster recovery capabilities.
To be successful in this position, you will be an experienced cloud engineering professional with a strong background delivering secure infrastructure solutions in complex enterprise or government environments.
You will bring:
- Demonstrated experience in Cloud Engineering, including a minimum of 5 years working with AWS and/or Azure environments.
- Strong expertise across Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS) technologies.
- Proven experience implementing, managing and assessing cloud security controls.
- Knowledge of cloud backup, disaster recovery and business continuity principles.
- Experience designing and supporting large-scale infrastructure solutions and system integrations.
- Strong automation skills, including infrastructure provisioning, deployment and operational scripting.
- Well-developed stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and business teams.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving within highly secure and dynamic environments.
Candidates must also be willing to undergo an Organisational Suitability Assessment (OSA) prior to engagement.

Location: The role is based in Canberra ACT.
Contract terms: 12 months from commencement date, plus 2x 12 month extensions
Experience Level: Senior – EL1 Equivalent
Security Requirements: Candidates must hold an active or reactivatable Top Secret Positive Vetting (TSPV) Security Clearance on submission. Our client is not looking to upgrade an existing clearance for this position. An OSA(Organisational Suitability Assessment) will be required for this position.
