About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer to design, build, and optimise complex data solutions that support high-impact operational and analytical outcomes.
In this role, you will work across the full data lifecycle, transforming raw data into meaningful, accessible, and secure assets. You will be responsible for developing scalable data pipelines, enabling advanced analytics, and improving data interoperability across systems.
Key responsibilities include:
- Analysing and solving complex data engineering challenges
- Designing and implementing data models, pipelines, and storage solutions
- Building and maintaining data environments for ingestion, transformation, and analysis
- Improving data accessibility and supporting advanced analytics use cases
- Ensuring data security, integrity, and quality across all systems
- Providing guidance on data architecture, requirements, and future-state solutions
You are a technically strong and security-focused Data Engineer with experience working in complex, highly regulated environments.
To be successful, you will demonstrate:
- Strong experience in data engineering, including building and managing data pipelines
- Proficiency in data tools, programming, and modern data architectures
- Experience with data modelling and designing scalable data solutions
- Ability to integrate, transform, and cleanse data from multiple sources
- Strong understanding of data storage, performance, and optimisation
- Experience implementing data quality controls and governance practices
- Ability to work through ambiguity and deliver practical, outcome-focused solutions
Candidates must also be willing to undergo an Organisational Suitability Assessment (OSA) prior to engagement.

Location: The role is based in Canberra ACT or Melbourne VIC.
Contract terms: 12 months from commencement date, plus 2x 12 month extensions
Experience Level: Senior – APS6 Equivalent
Security Requirements: Candidates must hold an active or reactivatable Top Secret Positive Vetting (TSPV) Security Clearance on submission. Our client is not looking to upgrade an existing clearance for this position. An OSA(Organisational Suitability Assessment) will be required for this position.
