The Department is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior DevOps Engineer to join its dynamic team. The successful candidate will bring a strong background in software development, system administration, and a deep understanding of DevOps culture, principles, and practices. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining robust CI/CD pipelines, driving automation initiatives, and improving overall system efficiency. You will play a key role in ensuring the security, reliability, and scalability of systems, while supporting continuous integration and delivery across the organisation.
Technical skills
Proficiency in scripting languages such as PowerShell and Python to support automation and operational tasks. Experience with containerisation technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes. Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure and/or AWS. Demonstrated experience in implementing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, preferably using Azure DevOps. Experience with security tooling, including SAST, DAST, and vulnerability management tools. Strong automation skills.

Essential criteria
- Technical Expertise Demonstrated experience in DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipeline implementation, containerisation (Docker/Kubernetes), and cloud platforms (Azure/AWS).
- Automation & Scripting Strong proficiency in scripting (PowerShell, Python) and ability to design and implement automation to improve efficiency.
- Systems Reliability & Support) Experience in monitoring, logging, troubleshooting, and maintaining high availability and performance of production systems.
- Security & Compliance Understanding and application of security best practices, including experience with SAST, DAST, and vulnerability management.
- Collaboration & Communication Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate technical concepts clearly.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g. Terraform, ARM templates).
- Relevant certifications (Azure, AWS, Kubernetes, or DevOps).
- Experience working in an Agile/DevOps environment, preferably within government or large organisations.
Security Required: Baseline- Security Clearance required
Location - Canberra Hybrid - will be required to attend the Canberra office a minimum of two days per week
