The Network Engineer is responsible for the design, operation and continuous improvement of enterprise network services supporting critical government systems. The role focuses on ensuring the availability, performance and security of network infrastructure across on‑premises and hybrid environments.
The position provides hands‑on network delivery and operational support, working closely with infrastructure, cloud and security teams to ensure reliable connectivity and secure system integration.
Key duties and responsibilities
Network Operations and Engineering
- Design, configure and support enterprise network infrastructure including switching, routing and firewall platforms.
- Maintain and optimise network performance, availability and resilience across data centre and hybrid environments.
- Troubleshoot complex network incidents and implement permanent remediation actions.
- Support network monitoring, alerting and capacity planning activities.
- Implement and maintain network security controls aligned with government and defence requirements.
- Support firewall rule management, network segmentation and secure access patterns.
- Work closely with cyber and infrastructure teams on secure system design and implementation.
- Support network connectivity between on‑prem environments and cloud platforms (including Microsoft Azure).
- Assist with network aspects of cloud migration and hybrid integration activities.
- Ensure network designs support availability, security and performance requirements for cloud‑hosted services.
- Maintain accurate network documentation, diagrams and operational procedures.
- Identify opportunities to improve network resilience, performance and supportability.
- Contribute to incident reviews, risk assessments and improvement initiatives.
- Work with internal teams, project resources and vendors to deliver network outcomes.
- Provide clear technical advice on network risks, issues and implementation options.
- Support change and release activities impacting network services.
- Experience in government or highly regulated environments.
- Exposure to cloud and hybrid networking architectures.
- Familiarity with network monitoring and management tools.
• Demonstrated experience operating and supporting enterprise network environments. • Strong knowledge of switching, routing, wireless and firewall technologies. • Hands on experience with enterprise network platforms including Aruba, Cisco, Juniper and Palo Alto. • Experience supporting highly available and mission critical network services. • Strong troubleshooting and incident response skills. • Ability to produce clear technical documentation and network diagrams.
Contract: 12 Months Contract with 2 x 12 month extensions
Security Required: NV1 Security Clearance required
